I never thought I'd EVER say this ...

I never thought I'd ever say this about a Kim Harrison/Rachel Morgan story. I couldn't finish the book. I was so excited to finally read the next installment in the series and I was looking forward to a twisty sneaky plot.

Unfortunately I found this book to be fairly boring. The story line wanders all over the place and never quite gets off the ground. Much of the book plays out in Rachel's head and Ms. Harrison has reduced the supporting characters to one dimensional shadows of their former selves. Jenks, Ivy, and Al in particular.

I also didn't think much of how she handled Nick in this book. While she certainly tied up that loose end, I think he merited more than a few lines in the story. I think Ms. Harrison could have cut this book by several hundred pages and just added it to the last installment.

I fervently hope that the last book goes back to the fast paced, snarky, funny, irreverent, serious, soul searching plot that has worked so well in all the other books.
