One of my favorite things about the stories that Heather Killough-Walden writes is the way her characters come to life. Even though this is a spin-off of The Big Bad Wolf series the characters, previously introduced or brand new, are extremely all well developed. The Vampire King stands on its own and, thanks to the incredible story telling gift of Heather Killough-Walden, you will soon come to love (and hate) the characters you meet in this series.

Roman DeAngelo is everything you would expect from a 3000 year old vampire king, and then some. Dark, to die for (he-he) gorgeous, unbelievably sexy and more than extremely powerful. He has only one weakness, Evie Farrow, a lovely human (or so she thinks) writer who can't quite connect to the human world. She is everything Roman dreams of, literally. His enemies would do anything to bring him down and Evie could be the way to do it.

Evie Farrow is the kind of female lead that we (okay, I) want to be. She is intelligent, strong and determined. She is touched with a hint of magic and has that extra something that can't quite be described or understood. Not only does she have Romans heart from the moment he meets her, she has attracted one of Romans most dangerous enemies, a very powerful warlock who is also a rogue vampire with a never ending hatred for Roman.

TVK is a wonderful romance with edge of your seat suspense in an adventure full of agonizing and wonderful twists and turns. It begins with the first chapter and it never lets up. Even the ending is a promise of things to come...

Unfortunately I have to give a star... worst book I have EVER read

I'm not sure how this book got 4 stars unless the author did it herself. Too frustrating to read, not worth any amount of money. The story jumped around and new characters were introduced throughout. I kept thinking I had missed something and wasted time backtracking, only to discover that I hadn't missed anything--it wasn't there to begin with! UGH! It's self-published for obvious reasons. All in all, very disappointing.

    An Ok Book

This book started off slow, and the author tended to ramble on and on through most of the book until the end. I liked the last part of this book. But I wont be buying any of the other books in this series. It just wasnt that great in my opinion.

    Worth the read!

If you like vampire type books you will enjoy this one. The characters are a little weak. It is almost rushed on some of the major characters. I hope she will take the time in the next book to build the depth of each of the major players. It tended to be a little rough in transitioning from one character to another but it wasn't so bad that I would call it a poor read. I did enjoy the story itself and it was unique. It kept my interest and I look forward to reading the next installment.

I was pleasantly amused. The writing in the beginning was a little juvenile for my taste. Over all an entertaining story decent characters.

This was a good story,,,,but way to much filler for me. Would have enjoyed more dialogue.

    Pretty Good

The ending felt a bit rushed though. Wish there was a sequel.

    New twist on vampires

One of the things that attract me to this whole genre is how each author "styles" their supernatural characters.
The author left plenty of unanswered questions for the next books.
    I'll probably read another one.

    Fun

This was a fun read. Something that was easy to follow without having to pay to much attention. This is fun book for a vacation read. I haven't read any of the authors any other books but this one was pretty good.

    Eh It's OK

OK honestly I find myself skipping thru trying to get to the interesting parts. I'm sorry but I am well beyond halway thru and there is very little to hold my attention. I like making a connection with the characters.... books that suck you in and don't let go. This is not one of those books - at least not for me. :-(

    Mediocre

This is decently written for a romance, and a vampire romance at that. Which is to say it's really just a mediocre romance. I bumped it up to 3 stars because the author is more original than most vampire and / or romance novelists by far. It's a decent and quick read. If you're looking for a light vampire romance this is one of the better ones.

    Good Book

Overall enjoyed the book. Would have liked the plot to be more complex though including the relationship between the Vampire King and Evie.

    Good

I love the premise behind the story - and the set up for future installments has my interest. But. I wouldn't say it is a "Knocked-my-socks-off" story. :) Good. Enjoyable. But not nearly the quality as "The Chosen Soul"
