I have to admit right off the bat, this automatically gets at least three stars for nostalgia alone. I read these stories when I was 12-14, back when they were The Cheerleader, The Return of the Vampire, and The Vampire’s Promise. However, I admit, it was the final one that stuck with me through the years.

The Cheerleader / Deadly Offer was the one I could least relate to. Though I understood (to a degree) how alone Althea felt, I was never one who yearned to be with the popular people. In fact, I didn’t much like this character until the very end. Then (and now that I’ve reread it), she really redeemed herself in my eyes.

I also found it hard to relate to Devnee. While I got feeling plain and dull and being intimidated by being the new girl in a school where everyone already knows their place and how to navigate everything, I was very put off by the way she viewed her family. The cruelty of her classmates made it hard to hate her, even though she did come across as a bit of a doormat. However, she started fighting much earlier, and she comes off as more likable than Althea.

This final story with Lacey is the one that stuck with me through the years. The vampire’s monologues, the teen’s thoughts and the fact that they seemed, while a bit stereotypical, still three-dimensional. Then there was Lacey. She wasn’t overly popular, but didn’t really long and yearn for it. I could definitely relate to that. However, she was also very strong and brave while afraid. She was basically who I would want to be if I were in her situation. In addition, I managed to like the other kids because they did their best to try to step up to the plate. This book has a very different set-up and plot that the first two, but that is actually explained nicely near the end. This would have to be my favorite of the three.

Since this is an omnibus, I have to give stars based on it all. It gets three for the first two and nostalgia, with five for the last. Averaging about four. Definitely worth the cost, though I would recommend only buying the last one if you have the chance.

I have the original Vampire Promise books, from what I remember

I have the original Vampire Promise books, from what I remember they haunted me after I read them. What would be uber cool is if she touched more on " The Stranger" now that was an even better read :)

The vampire isn't the main event....

The vampire takes the backseat in this collections of three previously published novels by Caroline B. Cooney. If you are looking for scares, blood, and gore, this may not be the book choice for you. This book is also not a vampire love story of any kind. The first two sections in this book deal with consequences and choices, while the last section is more of a creepy adventure. With its simple plot and limited vocabulary, I feel this book would be best suited to middle school or high school girls as well as female reluctant readers. I think those groups would be most able to relate to the characters Althea and Devnee who desperately want popularity and beauty so they will be noticed. The plot on the first two sections was a bit slow, so readers who want a bit more speed and suspense might consider skipping right to "Fatal Bargain."

Yikes

Didn't like this one at all. The story line was slow. It was really petty and immature. Don't think it is up to par with a lot of the other vampire/vamyre books that are out. Skip this one and try blue bloods/ twilight/ vampire academy/ or for a change Wolves of Mercy falls/ Night Shade

Not very interesting

I picked up this book hoping for an intense read but found it to be quite boring. The writing was good but the story was just okay. It did not have a lot to keep me interested. I could not even get through the first book.

Yeah

I luved this book. U cnt c anything like this book anywhere else. The part that I really enjoyed was when all the people fought the vampires back.
