What a wonderful piece of history.

I've always had one book that I loved more than all the others. Voyage of the Catalpa now holds that honor. It is filled with wonderfully courageous people. I felt I was in the Whaler, right along side Anthony, and his shipmates. Wonderfully written. Hard to put down. I highly recommend it.

    Great courage and intrigue

True adventure tale of the rescue of 'Queen's own' Irish soldier's, who also had an allegiance to their motherland. This is a great story that should be made into a movie, the character and indomitable spirit of men unjustly confined, and others who are willing to risk harm and freedom to help them escape is the basis of this story.

    History, adventure and suspense!

Wow! What a great find. This gem has history, adventure and suspense and reads like a novel. The well-placed letters and journal entries kept reminding me that this was real, not fiction. The Voyage of the Catalpa is one those books that you keep and re-read. Vivid details and accounts from the 1860-70s draw you into places such as Dublin, New Bedford, Mass., and western Australia. Not to mention the high-sea adventures of the whaler Catalpa. I highly recommend it!
