'Grimassi' and 'Historical Witchcraft' goes so well together...

At the present time I am writing my own book about Historical Witchcraft. While taking a lull in my research, I happened to stumble across this book by Grimassi and purchased it. I sat down reading and with a lump in my throat I couldn't believe it. This book was the book I was writing myself! Most people would be angered at months of work down the tubes; however, I looked at it as a joy. Grimassi is one author I've always admired and thought the style was well balanced. When I found that a lot of my own research reached the same conclusions that Grimassi did, I couldn't have been happier. Yes, this does mean that I have to go back and re-configure my original works; however, this book has given me the inspiration to do so. I recommend reading this book section by section not necessarially from cover to cover (minus the first 3 chapters - read those congruently).

Why didn't I read this one first?!

I've read many books on wicca/witchcraft, and if you're anything like me, you've noticed that about 98% of them are written for teenagers. From reading those books, I've gotten a rather lacking and shallow impression of witchcraft. This book is different. Grimassi covers the history, the watchers, reincarnation and other topics in a comprehensive yet understandable way. If you're tired of books that tell you to get an athame, wand, etc, and never telling you WHY it's important, I highly recommend this book. Grimassi has shown me how beautiful and spiritual this path really is.

    My thoughts

I believe Raven captures and helps people understand in these novels. She understands and brings out how powerful this definately misunderstood but powerful way to be.

    beginners must (but be careful)

A good book for those who want to learn about the basics/background of the craft. As with any book be careful. Listen to your heart. The goddess will guide you. If you get a bad vibe, stay away.

    Very well researched and written

I am about half way through this book so far. It is a very deep and intellectual book. I was looking for a book of this magnitude that went in depth historically to the basis of wicca. I am thoroughly enjoying the attention to detail and facts that Raven has obviously spent years researching. This is a great book for anyone who is searching for the truths and history that wicca came from. I love how he correlates the stages of wicca (which is why you have to read it from start to end with no cheating). Raven has yet again provided a well written book that is an enormous value to the wiccan faith. I recommend this book to all who walk the path and those that are comfortable learning about it.

    more from this reviewer

    Thought provoking! Controversial- wonderful!

This book left me with a feeling of deep contemplation. Not the easiet read, or may not be "stmulating" for some. But I found it intriguing and fascinating. Really challanges everything you may have always been taught or known in your youth. For me, uncovering and confirming the things people don't nescessarily want to be a part of our history in religion. A book of truths!

    A MUST HAVE

I have read over 30 books to date on this subject and found i still had a lot of unanswered questions. This book was very easy to read, understand and was unbiased of the author's opinion. She used everyday terms to bring to life the old religion whereas most other books tend to hit and miss that subject of Wicca. I wish i would have started with this book instead of Gerald Gardner, would have saved me time and money on trying to research what Gerald was leaving out.

A much needed clue for those who don't understand

a lot of people are totally clueless when it comes to the wicca religion and i thin that this book is just the thing they need to understand what it is all about.
