This book is beautiful. Beautiful? More like supermegafoxyawesomehot. And Chris Colfer. What the Hell can't he do?

While I enjoyed the book I found it to be over all average. At times I found the plot predictable and was able to figure several things quite quickly. I'm not saying it wasn't an enjoyable read, because it certainly was, but it wasn't phenomenal.

Although I do give credit to Mr. Colfer for finishing a book, I was expecting so much more out of this book given the reviews and general outcry.  Mr. Colfer's idea is creative and unique but his writing fails to make it anything other then another fairy tale.  His syntax, diction, image systems, and poor use of figurative language makes this book feel very flat and one dimensional.  In a creative writing class we usually teach the students to "show and not tell," which is an element that Mr. Colfer needs to expand.   A good book should infuse the language with a tone and an emotional response without the author writing what the response should be.  Also, the book tends to fll into cliches and tropes that are consistent with this genre of writing.  The reader is not made to be an active participant in the story because the writing and plot is so familiar.  If Mr. Colfer wants to be taken seriously as a writer. He should invest in some form and technique books or take part in a writers' workshop.   I think the reason this book is so successful is that he is a household name with an enormous fan base,.  Unfortunately his star status eclipses his actual ability to write.
