    Wonderful book!

I first became aware of the They Draw and Cook blog while I was on Pinterest, where I saw one of the illustrated recipes from their site and I just loved it! I was thrilled to go to their site where I found lots more -- from many different artists, in a wide variety of styles. I even made a Pinterest board just for Illustrated Recipes so that I could keep "pinning" all my favorites from them! TDAC is run by a brother and sister team, Nate Padavick and Salli Swindell, both of whom are artists themselves. This seems to have made them remarkably considerate toward other artists, shown by the positive feedback they leave for the contributors on their site. In addition, they are now offering the recipe prints for sale in their shop. And now, they have a new book out, featuring 107 popular recipes from their site! The new book has designs from artists all over the world who have chosen a favorite recipe and then illustrated it in their own style. The wide-ranging types of artistic expression and mediums makes They Draw and Cook especially compelling, as the artworks bring the recipes to life. While the illustrated recipes may sometimes be fairly detailed, the medium actually lends itself very well to simple recipes, which makes them extra do-able. I enjoyed how many of the recipes in They Draw and Cook, like Kimchi or Curry Cabbage, mainly show the ingredients with only a small amount of text. That really helped me to quickly visualize what the dish was about more than simply reading a text recipe. The personal nature of the recipes, in addition to the designs, provides interesting insights into their creators, as in the Starving Artist Goo-lash or Grandma's special Spaghetti. They Draw and Cook includes a broad range of recipe ideas from around the globe, like Mango Lassi, Salsa Verde or Raisin Muffins. Reading cookbooks has always been one of my favorite past-times, but They Draw and Cook allows me to bring two of my favorite things, art and cooking, together! I hope they will continue to have future editions showcasing more delicious recipes and inspiring art.
