A true adventure retelling that left me smiling, not nail bitten!
Adventure at its best. These unlikely Voyageurs made their way along 1400 miles of waterway, over several months and not only lived to write about it, but are still friends! I think nearly everyone could identify with these down-to earth-guys and the tale of their journey. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. I really enjoyed this book. I'm a sucker for these type of travelogues. The book follows four college students from Iowa on a canoe trip from a lake in Minnesota down the Red River to Lake Winnipeg up that lake to the Hayes River which they travel down to Hudson's Bay at York Factory. Was this review helpful? The journey starts with a father asking one of the four Iowans while fishing a lake in Minnesota, "Where does this water go?" "The Mississippi", the son replies. "No, Hudson's Bay." From that point, he was obsessed with the romance of canoeing from That lake in Minnesota to Hudson's Bay.
The only disappointment I had with the book is the author doesn't follow up with the four canoeists. He does contact some of the people they met along the way, though.
Do you need to be a canoeist to enjoy this book? No. Hell, you could get me in a canoe................at gunpoint, but it would have to be a big gun.
