    Yes I remember

I was 5 when the first edition of this book came out. My aunt lived on Horatio Street and sent it to me for my birthday. I remember looking at the pages, reading it repeatedly with my mom, and marveling at this exotic, exciting, enigmatic city. 45 years later, I'm a long-term resident of NYC for 25+ years. I still find the book and the city to be as dazzling as it seemed when I was a child, and wonder sometimes if the seeds were sewn then that ultimately brought me here. It's simply magical in every way and I'm thrilled to see its well-deserved updated release.

A delightful way to "visit" the Big Apple!

Sasek's "This is New York" is the best in his series of books on international cities. Children and adults will enjoy learning about the Big Apple in such a fun, engaging and interesting way. The facts are simple and the illustrations are wonderful.

We originally purchased "This is New York" as a fun way to tell our kids about New York, a city where we once worked and visited often before they arrived. It is now requested at least once a week. Our children are actually the ones who know the most "facts" about America's greatest city. This book is a classic that we will keep in our family collection forever!

    more from this reviewer

Great as a kids travel guide

We took grandchildren, ages 3 and 5, on a trip to the "Big City." In preparation, we used the book as a preview of things they would see. During the ferry trip from S.I. to Manhattan we were able to show them illustrations of the boats, the harbor, the surrounding land and landmarks, and then point to the real things. We walked up to the South St. Seaport, and everywhere we looked there was something interesting to point out. I planned to use the book to show them the different kinds of hydrants in the city, but that will have to be included in another trip.
