Better than the show
I saw the show during its Broadway previews, and all I could think was,''If you're going to adapt a movie musical for the stage, why pick a so-so one?'' The show was far from bad (I went for Harriet Harris and Marc Kudrich, plus I love musicals good or not) but for its skimpy content it felt far too long. There wasn't much feeling of the 20's in it even though the show was shotful of great dancing. I left the theatre as tired as if I had been hoofing since 8pm! This cast albumn, however, is another matter. It sizzles. Without the silly plot and rather ugly scenic design, ''Millie'' comes across as if it were a terrific one-act musical a la ''Grand Hotel.'' There are perhaps three bummer songs, ''How the Other half Lives'' and Muzzie's numbers (they wrote two new numbers for her that are even lamer than the two dropped in previews). This is definitely one of those original cast albumns that makes its show sound like much more fun than it is in the theatre. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
