I bought this book & was pleased to see what a sound nutritional & health resource this is. I came across this book as I searched for RELIABLE, ACCURATE information (written by an active person who is in good apparent health) for a vegan client. The book is very well written. Brendan does not take the stance that you HAVE to be a Vegan, which is refreshing. Everyone can learn from this great book & implementing the information will benefit you- vegetarian, vegan, or meat-eater. The only thing that would make this even better, would be to add MORE Raw/Living food recipes (the recipes I have tried so far have been delicious), versus cooked recipes.

Worth a read for vegetarian/vegan athletes

Considering the book, I should start out by saying that I am a vegetarian, and that I do a fair amount of running, cycling, etc. I saw the book recommended in a number of places, and it understandably piqued my interest.

Considering the book, I should start out by saying that I am a vegetarian, and that I do a fair amount of running, cycling, etc. I saw the book recommended in a number of places, and it understandably piqued my interest.

On the whole, I am glad that I read the book. I would recommend it for other vegetarian or vegan athletes -- and it might well be worth a look for anyone who is interested in exploring a more organic or just simpler diet. The book includes very clear, strong sections on different types of grains and produce and a pretty thorough discussion of how to time your nutrition with your workouts. These sections -- as well as the recipes -- are material I think many people will use.

I did not give the book a higher rating, because the book is largely one, rather eccentric person's view of nutrition and overall wellness. There are sources in the back, but references are not used throughout and it is clear that the author is primarily relying on his own experience for determining what should be the way. As the author points out, one person's experience with a given nutrition/exercise regime is not necessarily generalizable. Some people may not have a problem with this approach -- but it is a definite hurdle to my appreciation, and acceptance, of much of the content in the book.
