    What an Adventure!!!!!!

This is my favorite book by Doug Preston and Lincoln Child. I stayed up until 2:00 a.m. to finish it!!!! It has all the elements I love in a great story: adventure, romance, hidden cities, treasure hunting, evil villains, a strong willed woman character, anicent Indians, canyons, and horses. It was a whirl wind of a thrill ride for me. The main character, Nora, is one of my favorite characters. She can ride a horse as well as any man, is stubborn, and intelligent, yet she has a soft side to her too. The plot is all the things I mentioned above. It starts out fast, keep the pace going quickly, and the ending is awesome. Well, done Mr. Preston and Mr. Child. This book sure would make an great movie!!!!!

Once they get off on their journey, fun begins!

This story did not hook me until their little expedition got off into the desert, and then I couldn't put it down. The images of what they found in that abandoned village stay with me even now a year later. I would like to read the book again.

    Good book

Characters are annoying and full of egos for 2/3 of the book but it all comes together in the end and makes the read worth it!

    Very Good Book!

This one was loaded with action, suspense and some history. A very fast pace book...I loved it.

    A little slow...

A whole lot of description in this story, bringing the unique badlands to life for anyone who is interested. One thing: wasn't Nora part of that mess in the New York museum? Wasn't she a PhD candidate then? Didn't she meet and know Smithbeck then? So how's come we're acting like none of that was true, while simultaneously commenting on Bill's part in that fiasco? Weird.....

Simply a GREAT book! Loved the characters and archeology, tough to put this book down. I hate to say much more in fear of giving away the plot.

Thunderhead By Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child

I really enjoyed this book. It was a little low going in the beginning, but I think everything they put in the beginning was necessary to grasp the whole concept of the story. Some parts of the book were so detailed that I almost felt like i was there, thought I could see what they saw, even smell the morning glory's. I also enjoyed how the book took some parts of history and put a major twist on them. Not very many people can take a book about digging up old artifacts and keep you on the edge of your seat the way these two did.

    An Enjoyable Surprise

This was my first read by these authors and I greatly enjoyed it. It kept me on edge and wondering what was to come on the next page. It was the kind of book you can't wait to see how it ends and at the same time don't want it to end.

    Can't miss!

This is easily my favorite of the Preston & Child books. The story was so much better given that I read it about a month after visiting New Mexico and the Chaco Canyon Anasazi ruins. To be able to understand the historical and geographic references made this read so much more enjoyable. The plot and characters were well developed and written. Intend to read this one again in the very near future.

    Great read!

I just read this book, and I admit I was surprised. I only read it because I have totally enjoyed all the other books written by these guys. I thought that Dance of Death was awesome, I called that book 'delicious'. But, Wow, this book was great. Fast paced, exciting, scary,... all believable at the time. Great book.

    Cool story, mediocre narrative style

I read Tyrannosaur Canyon, then Relic, then Thunderhead, then Mount Dragon. All have great story ideas but Thunderhead is a clunker in terms of narrative skill. TC, MD and Relic are much more highly recommendable.

    Refreshing and Tense

I loved this book. I'd read most of their other books when I got to this and wasn't expecting what I got. This has some very unique elements and situations that I found to be very fun and interesting. The history on the Anasazi is very cool (if true or not, I have no idea, but they did a good job of making it seem true.) The combination of modern and ancient dangers was meshed perfectly. This is probably now my favorite Preston/Child creation.

Read it for what they find...

...that's where the excitement is. Nora Kelly is as boring a protagonist as there ever was. And so is her family, and her job, and her work. But once she makes her journey out to 'the site', the book gets great and picks up and you are in a page-turner all of the sudden. Highly recommended, but not as good as others of P&C I've read.

    Boring

The first few chapters were good then it seem to get bogged down and just got boring.

    One of their best

This book was one of the best they've written. I read Relic first and it got me hooked on them. Reliquary was pretty good and so was Riptide, but i've read better. Thunderhead brought the authors back up to the top of my list. I loved it.

    A LAETIFICANT READ INDEED

This was my first Preston & Child novel, and I must say, I was impressed with their skill at story-telling. This is obviously not just another tale of good vs. evil. Thunderhead is filled with taut suspense and an intriguing story. The Anasazi Indians, the lost city of gold--Quivira, witchcraft...it is a perfect mix of fact and fiction. Not lost in the storyline are a group of diverse and unforgettable characters. At the head of these is a strong and noble heroine. The only thing that may stall readers is some of the words are hard to understand. A dictionary or thesaurus at the side may be helpful to understanding the context. If you know what 'quotidious, scree, stochastic, remuda, tenebrous,' among others mean, then you shouldn't have a problem. But if anything, it's a good way to improve vocabulary. Still, looking up words was not enough to take away from the thrill of reading this book. Overall, 'Thunderhead' is a well put together story combining archaeology, horror, mystery, and adventure. I recommend this book for everyone....just don't forget your dictionary.

Let's hear it for a heroine

Not only did the story captivate me, but I had to follow through with research into the Anasazi once I was done with the book. The authors once again have succeeded in grabbing the reader and keeping them thoroughly engrossed until the very end.The heroine is a wonderful combination of warmth and steel with a liberal dose of intelligence. Anyone who enjoys this genre will not want to miss this one.

    You'll quaff each page - more 2:00 a.m. reading!

Preston and Child do it again! They have proven themselves as bestselling authors time and time again and continue to amaze me. These two men write in a way that flows with my own thoughts. I've read every book they've co-authored and can't wait until their next book. Thunderhead rocks! It's full of technical reading and has a plot that kept me interested to the last page.
