To Hiss or to Kiss tells the story of our protagonist, Chloe, and how her abilities to telepathically communicate with animals gets her involved in taking down a dog fighting ring while simultaneously dealing with her attraction to a man she sees at work one day.

Chloe’s used to being able to communicate with animals, but one day, while she’s on the job at the animal shelter she works at, she hears a human voice in her head besides the animals she normally hears. This spooks Chloe, but leaves her interested in the man whose thoughts she’s heard. At the same time, Chloe learns about a suspected dog fighting ring, which she wants to help break up. After leaving work, she goes exploring to find out more, and once again meets up with the mysterious man (Jorge) she saw while working. They end up talking, and work together to rescue the dogs while embarking on a relationship.

I really enjoyed this story. It was a pretty quick read, and I was spellbound. I loved Chloe and Jorge, and how their relationship grew. Though it seemed a little fast, the passion between them was incredible and I was really drawn in by it. I also loved the way the animals in the story communicated with Chloe. It added a lot to the book and kept my interest piqued. I felt just as worried for the animals as Chloe did, and when *redacted for spoilers* happened, I was in the same headspace as Chloe and Jorge.

One of the moments I loved most was when Jorge revealed his secret to Chloe. Though I’d guessed it from the beginning, the way that Ms. Armock wrote the scene was hilarious. I could easily see it happening as though it was on a network tv show.

My only complaint with To Hiss or to Kiss was the ending. It felt a little rushed.

I give To Hiss or to Kiss 3.5 stars. It’s a fun read, and definitely great for taking to the beach this summer.

Note: I was given a copy of this book for the purpose of reviewing it. That has no effect on my review.

Note II: This review is cross-posted to Amazon, Shelfari, and Goodreads.

Chloe is able to speak to animals via her mind. But when she hears a "human" in her mind she freaks out. She is drawn to Jorge after she finds out that he lives next to the farm that the humane society, she volunteers at, is watching for possible dog fights. They both have secrets and are they able to share with each other. Chloe is afraid of relationships because of how her parents marriage ended. Will she ever learn the secrets that her mother had that took her away from Chloe and her dad? When Chloe decided to go and get the dogs from the farm, one of the dogs is killed and she is able to save 4 others. The ghost of the dead dog, Gracie, comes and helps close up some other fighting rings.

Can Chloe fight the demons in her mind and listen to her heart?

I really enjoyed the story line. The characters were all well rounded and the story was well written. The only piece that I found lacking was the ending. I felt "dropped"; it just ended. I hope that there will be another book continuing the story!!
