    Finally! Something for Working Moms!

Over the course of two pregnancies and sleepless nights during the baby years, I have read easily 20 books on parenting during the first year. As I read about napping while the baby naps and taking your toddler to play groups, I always role my eyes. With 70 percent of moms going back to work by 12 weeks, the stay-at-home-moms who write these books are just not in touch. Zoellner and Ybarbo write about their own experiences of raising kids in a family of two working parents and include the experiences of their colleagues at the Today Show which certainly appeals to the People Magazine reader in me. They lend advice on pumping at work or during travel, getting Mom ready to return to work, and keeping the romance alive despite work, baby, etc. The advice is practical and not always politically correct (i.e. stomach sleeping or delayed vaccinations) but is also followed up by Words of Wisdom from the medical community so readers can decide what works for them. This book is funny and touching and honest and a must buy for anyone pregnant or who knows someone who is pregnant.

Today's Mom is for every Mom

I saw this book in the store - the title caught my eye and I began glancing through it. All my children are grown and I thought that maybe my grown kids would enjoy getting a few hints pretaining to "today's kids" and how to handle situations with things that come up these days. I found it very enlighting and funny. However, I didn't purschase a copy for my kids - I bought one as a gift for a colleage of mine at work who is due to have her first baby. She has told me she really enjoys the book and ends up reading parts of it out loud to her husband it's both funny and helpful. Although, we work every day with young children in our profession - none are as young and as precious as the one she will be having real soon!

A refreshing and helpful guide for new parents!

As the mom of two teenagers, it's been many years since I've spent my days in spit-up laden clothing and my nights wearing grooves into the floors trying to soothe a colicky baby. But the real-life stories of Today's Moms, Mary Ann Zoellner and Alicia Ybarbo, along with Today Show anchors and contributors, brought back the feelings I had as a new parent. Vivid memories of worrying if I was doing everything right or not and all those little surprises that no one tells you about before you have the baby. (But don't worry, this book will tell you!)

Today's Moms is refreshingly honest and has sound advice about everything from breastfeeding to choosing whether or not to work outside the home. Most advice books offer the opinions, expertise, and experiences of one or two authors. Today's Moms: Essentials for Surviving Baby's First Year goes way beyond other parenting advice books. Authors, Mary Ann Zoellner and Alicia Ybarbo, share their personal stories of pregnancy, childbirth, and adjusting to being a mom. Today Show medical and nutritional experts offer their advice on mom's physical and mental health, baby's health and safety, and nutrition for both. Today Show anchors, co-anchors, correspondents, producers and crew all contribute their experiences as new moms and dads. This collaborative effort has resulted in one of the best parenting books I have ever read. (And I have read a LOT!) Today's Moms has something for every new parent and is the new must-give item on my baby shower gift list.

It was a joy to review the book and share it, along with Mary Ann and Alicia, with our audience on the Ask MomRN Show on BlogTalkRadio.com. To hear the authors discuss the book: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/stations/flylady/momrn/2009/04/27/Todays-Moms-Essentials-for-Surviving-Babys-First-Year

Thank you, Today's Moms, for writing the book I wish I'd had when my "babies" were still babies. I hope you will do a whole series as your children grow!
