The erotic writer Pierre Louys pursued his cherished themes of lust and lesbianism amongst young women throughout his writings, which include The She Devils, The Songs Of Bilitis, Aphrodite, and Le Roi Gonzalve, a tale of a king's incestuous love for his young daughters. The potent novella Toinon, here translated into English for the first time ever, was amongst Louys' final papers. Set in the confines of a girls' boarding-school, it stands as a fitting coda to the author's work, one which luxuriates in his familiar theme of sexual mania, leavened with coital tristesse, in girls on the threshold of womanhood.
