I read all the Deb Ralston books when they were first written and thoroughly enjoyed all of them, so I was pleased to find at least some of them available in e-format. I'd love to give the book a 5 star rating, but I can't. The story is just as enjoyable as when I first read it. Deb Ralston is a police officer with the Fort Worth PD. She's an unconventional officer, who gets personally involved in her cases. She advocates for the victims and, in some cases, the suspects, and generally acts as an earth mother to all involved. She's also a mother, with a rather unconventional family, who get involved in some of the cases. The police procedures are rather clunky now, but if you can keep in mind that the books were written in the 80's and 90's, they still hold up. Unfortunately, the reason I can't give the book a higher rating is because of the horrible formatting. The author apparently intended to make some corrections and update the books a bit as they were converted to e-format. Unfortunately, she, an editor or the formatter made the corrections but also left in the original words/phrases. That makes for some very confusing reading. Aside from the amateurish formatting, though, highly recommend this book and the entire series.
