Tough Plants for Southern Gardens
If you are a complete novice in the world of plants as I am but you want to plant for whatever reason (landscaping, gardening, whatever) and you live in the south then this book is tailor-made for you. It offers sufficient information to get your planting project going as well as how to maintain your plants after planting. The book is easy to read, well organized and entertaining, but most of all PRACTICAL. Other plant books were too sophisticated for us, seeming to have been written with the assumption that everyone is already an experienced gardener. SO FRUSTRATING! When I saw written under this book's title: Low Care, No Care, Tried and True Winners, I grabbed the book off the shelf and started thumbing through it to see if this promise delivered. Well, it did, and I promptly bought it. It was the ONLY copy on the shelf - what's with that??? - the world is full of beginners! The book breaks down the plants into categories such as trees, shrubs, vines, grasses, annuals, etc., tells you which are easiest for beginners, which are kind of tricky, and gives you ALL the information you'll need for a successful planting project. Since my purchase of this book, my husband and I tote the book around with us everywhere we go, along with our digital camera, taking pictures of plants hightlighed in the book that we think we like. We are actively planning the landscaping of our yard now whereas before we just kept procrastinating because we didn't know what we were doing (hiring a professional landscaper was not an option for us). I just wish the author, Mr. Rushing, would write some more plant books for beginners such as us. It's obvious that he has the enthusiasm, knowledge, and experience to do so as well as an engaging writing style that makes learning about the plants fun and easy, especially for beginners like us.
