Excellent beginning of an addictive series.

I read this book up to the 17th in the series when I had access to my father's collection. Years later it still has a large affect on my life. I agree with the other reviewer that this shoud be mandatory reading for our public school children.

THE FIRST BOOK IN SPANISH BIT SAGA

THIS IS A VERY GOOD BOOK IN A VERY GOOD SERIES. THIS IS THE FIRST BOOK OF A SERIES THAT IS MOSTLY OUT OF PRINT,THOUGH I DON'T KNOW WHY! THIS BOOK STARTS OUT IN ABOUT 1540A.D., WHICH IS ONE OF THE REASONS I LIKE IT, THERE ARE INDIANS BUT NO COWBOYS. AFTER READING IT I HAD TO HAVE ALL OF THE SERIES, SO I CALLED AND VISTED USED BOOK STORES IN N.C. AND THE SOUTHERN U.S., AFTER ABOUT A YEAR I HAD COLLECTED THREE SETS OF THE SPANISH BIT SAGA SERIES, AND ALL OF DON COLDSMITH'S NOVELS, AND THE THREE SUPER EDITIONS WHICH GO ALONG WITH THE SPANISH BIT SAGA BUT ARE CONSIDERED A SEPARATE SERIES. THERE ARE 26 BOOKS IN THE SERIES AND I DIDN'T REST TILL I HAD READ THEM ALL. AS THE BOOKS PROGRESS,THE FAMILY TREE GROWS AND DON COLDSMITH LISTS THESE IN MOST ALL OF THE BOOKS. COLDSMITH HAS A UNCANNY ABILTY TO TRANSPORT YOU TO THE TIME IN HISTORY HE IS WRITING ABOUT. SO IF YOU ARE SOMEONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO RELIVE HISTORY IN AMERICA FROM THE 1500'S, SEE THE PRISTINE LAND AS THE NATIVES SAW IT, THEN THIS BOOK IS THE PLACE TO START! IN MY OPINION THIS IS A GREAT BOOK IN A EVEN GREATER SERIES, BY ONE OF THE GREATEST AUTHORS OF ALL TIMES! DON COLDSMITH KNOWS HIS STUFF! I THINK THIS BOOK AND OTHERS IN THE SERIES SHOULD BE MANATORY READING IN OUR PUBLIC SCHOOLS SO CHILDREN COULD KNOW THE HISTORY OF THIS GREAT LAND MORE ACCURATLEY, AND KNOW THAT THE INDIANS WHO LIVED IN THIS TIME OF HISTORY, HAD FAMILYS ,THAT THEY LOVED AND HATED, AND WERE NO BETTER OR NO WORSE, NO SMARTER OR NO DUMBER THAN ANY OTHER PEOPLES ON THIS EARTH. I JUST THINK I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO HAVE LIVED AS THEY DID, CLOSE TO THE LAND,KNOWING THE PLANTS AND ANIMALS AND THE LOYALTY TO TRIBE AND FAMILY. IF YOU WOULD HAVE LIKED TO LIVE IN THIS PEROID OF HISTORY, LET DON COLDSMITH HELP YOU RELIVE IT, IN THIS BOOK AND ALL THE OTHERS IN THE SERIES, I CAN PROMISE YOU, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

I first read this book years ago and couldn't put it down. It has the same effect now as it did then. Very, very good!
