The Traiteur's Ring is a unique blend of several different genres. It manages to meld elements of action-adventures, military thrillers, and mystic horror into one coherent and entertaining plot that envelops the reader. We care not only about Ben, but also his wife back home, the team of SEALS that are his brothers, and the innocent people they seek to protect. And Wilson's background in the military shines through on every page; we believe in Ben's gift because we believe in Ben.

The Traiteur's Ring is a truly unique story in a genre that so seldom produces uniqueness. I recommend it highly, my only caveat being that there are some genre fans who may find the depth of character development to be simply too detailed. But if you are the type of reader who wants characters that are complex and developed, with back stories and real lives beyond the glimpses we see in the pages, then Wilson has crafted the perfect book for you.

A perfect read!

This novel is part thriller, military study, horror, and a small dose of love story(although the latter is not the focus). There is nothing like it. The scenes with the SEAL team taking out Al Qaeda in Africa are riveting and it is obvious that the Author has been up close and personal. The bond between the members of the SEAL team just felt so real. The emotional roller coaster that this novel takes you on is amazing, and it certainly reminds me of Stephen King in Dr Wilson's depth of character development. You will feel like you've known them your whole life. A perfect read in every way.

Ben Morvant is a member of the Viper Team of the United States Navy SEALs-a strong, brave soldier with an admirable sense of justice and morality. He's also a Traiteur or spiritual healer. He has worked very hard to distance himself from his painful and confusing past in every possible way. When he is confronted with all sorts of demons on the battlefield, he finds he must finally face his past and the truth about who and what he really is once and for all.

I was truly impressed with this book! I don't read a lot of military type stories with war and blood and guts. Since the main character is a Navy SEAL, and they are out in the field for a good bit of this book, there is naturally war and blood and guts. I found myself genuinely interested in the story, even the military parts (I even looked up a few terms!), which says a lot for Wilson's stimulating writing style.

I hate to sound like a big prude, but I'll admit at some point (maybe when there was a certain "splat") I got a little bored with all the sex between Ben and Christy. I mean, I get it, but I don't necessarily want to keep hearing about it. If I wasn't proofing, I might have just skimmed through those parts completely.

Ben is an amazing protagonist. He is young, a Navy SEAL (which means his body is taken care of, right?), sweet and sensitive, thoughtful, strong, and some kind of magical healer/warrior! How in the world did a male author make up such a perfect guy?!?!? I love my husband, but man, I certainly was jealous of Christy for a while!

My favorite part of Traiteur's Ring: it evoked almost every emotion possible. The easy, playful banter between Ben and his fellow team members had me laughing quite often. His relationship with Jewel and Christy made me feel those warm fuzzies. I loathed the terrorists and the destruction they caused. I cried, honestly, at least three different times in the story (don't want to spoil anything, though!). And, the action and suspense had me hanging on the edge of my seat.

Not every girl out there will be able to appreciate this story as much as I have, but it really has something for everyone. Jeffrey did an amazing job. He is a wonderful storyteller. I think if you decide to try this one out, you will not be disappointed!

A Must Read

This book has a very unusual theme with excellent interaction of characters. Ben Morvant was brought up in the backwoods of Louisiana with his traituer grandmother who had some kind of mystical power. His memories of his time there haunt him into adulthood especially the vision of his grandmother covered in blood after killing what his mind recalls as a deer.

When he becomes a navy seal and is deployed to Africa he encounters a village of jungle people for whom Ben seems to have an affinity and a common ancestry. When Al Queda fighters slaughter most of the villagers the elder implores Ben to use his powers as a 'rougarou' to save the living jungle from the dark one who is working through the terrorists and ultimately make the world a safer place for everyone.

A very unique subject which keeps the attention but I thought a very abrupt ending . A hint of the rougarous power being passed to Ben's son and no mention of the startling acts performed by Ben in the jungle by his team mates just leaves you wanting more.

Gruesomely Explicit-not for the faint of heart

This is a gruesomely explicit novel about Ben Morvant, one of five members of the Navy Seals "Viper Team", their journeys to East Africa and their assignments to enter these villages too capture Al Qaeda soldiers for interrogation. Ben is a Seer encompassing the Ashe within, helping him with being the Traiteur, but has consent nightmares of the events that the Rougarou exhibit while performing their assignments. The healing powers that Ben processes is too extremely unrealistic, somewhat like the scene in the "Green Mile", but the comradery between the "Viper Team" members, is absorlute love for each other, the "band of brothers" and their bonding togetherness.
