    Very Key Informative Back-Story

I'm thrilled that the Beast Wars story continues in the IDW comics. They're written by Simon Furman, who most fans know is the Chris Claremont of Transformers. He excitedly got on board with the Beast Wars comics, and they do not disappoint. Prior knowledge of the core CGI Beast Wars show is essential before going into this book but the profiles from the show elaborate on it. Pros: It connects the events of the Beast Wars show, Beast Wars II, and Beast Wars Neo into a cohesive arc when the characters are read in a certain order. The events of Beast Wars II and Beast Wars Neo are the build-up to the time of the CGI/Core Beast Wars show. Beast Wars II and Neo come across as very silly and weird, but the entries here give the characters from that timeframe a much more mature feel. There are also some G1 nods in the profiles too. Cons: I don't consider these very important as they're not as important as the actual content this book conveys. Grimlock's robot head design looks different than when he appears in the minis, Megatron's Transmetal forms are not included, and there are one or two typos here and there, and only a couple characters are placed wrong alphabetically. However, Megatron's Transmetal forms can be seen in the minis. Beside that, this book is priceless. It even includes a 7-page glossary at the end. This book really does set up the events which transpire in the minis The Gathering and The Ascending with these in turn setting up certain events which take place after the Beast Wars. Most of the characters listed here show up in 'Gathering' and 'Ascending' with only a small handful apparently being saved for the still-in-the-works third mini. There is a certain order to read the profiles, but the list looks very hard to read on the this review format. If you're interested, go to the Teletran I Wiki page and locate the Beast Wars Sourcebook trade paperback section or try to contact me. I cannot recommend this book enough!
