Great Series

I enjoyed Trougle in Mudbug-(Ghost-in-Law Series). I enjoy mysteries where the characters make me laugh out loud. So if you like Janet Enanovich, C.L. Bevill, Gemma Halliday your will enjoy Jana DeLeon as well.

Cute read

It's a fast read; it's very suited for a beach/vacation read. Nothing too deep, if that's what you like, but if you like cute stories this is it for you.

    2.5 Stars. Hero: 5/10 Heroine: 6/10 Sizzle: 3/10 Romance: 6/10

    2.5 Stars.

    Hero: 5/10
    Heroine: 6/10
    Sizzle: 3/10
    Romance: 6/10
    Humor: 7/10
    Secondary Characters: 7/10
    End: 4/10
    Pace: 6/10

While I was entertained for the most part (I laughed and cried, it had good flow and an interesting plot, and Helena was an awesome character), I struggled to enjoy the story completely. I was mostly frustrated and confused. It took over half the book to know whether it was a romance or a cozy mystery or a paranormal tale. It fell flat in each category for me due to the lack of clarity. Reminded me of the saying "Jack of all trades, master of none." For that reason, I won't be continuing on with this series

    more from this reviewer

    Silly cozy

I usually pick up cozies as a break from other more intense reads. Helena, the late mother-in-law, produced a few good laughs and a life lesson to both the Maryse and the reader.

    Kind of Slow Going

Not hitting my fancy so far. May archive it without finishing. It lacks something to keep my interest. Will give it a few more pages. Sometimes it takes a book a while to grab you. That's what I am looking for, the book to grab me.

    Great series

I enjoyed these books very much. Although they are mysteries, they are light reading and at times laugh out loud funny.

What demographic is this meant for?

I was looking for a new series to start and saw the reviews for this were mostly good. Thank goodness I didn't spend more than 99 cents on this book, it wasn't worth it. This book is only around 200 pages but it took me a month to drudge through, it was just that awful. I didn't really get a sense of who the main character Maryse was (we never find out how old she is) and the writing felt forced. The author threw in foul language and a sex scene to just be edgy, I guess. I am not offended by either, it just didn't work for this "quarky" story. This story felt like a beach-read that my 65-yr-old coworker reads. I guess all the "cutesyness" just didn't work on me. Good luck reading this. I'm going to read War & Peace now.
