There is no time in life filled with more mystery than the innocent years of the preteen â¿¿ a time filled with an almost mischievous curiosity. The life of young boys is filled with adventures and often reckless behavior. Things are no different for Timmy and his friends in The Turtle Boy by Kealan Patrick Burke. After a death of a young boy on the local train tracks, the children are forbidden to play near them. However, as boys are likely to do, Timmy and his friends canâ¿¿t help going near the forbidden area. It is at Myers Pond that he and his friend Pete meet a strange boy named Darrel, who was about their age, and claimed he was feeding the turtles â¿¿ in an interesting way that I will leave for the readers to discover. Timmy tells his dad about seeing the boy and how his face was messed up and his clothes were wore out. His dad didnâ¿¿t believe him but Peteâ¿¿s dad blamed Timmy for always getting his son in trouble, and sent him away to camp for the rest of the summer. Not wanting their son to be without a playmate, Timmyâ¿¿s parents find a little girl to keep him company. Itâ¿¿s not long before the two of them discover there is something more surrounding the mysterious boy; something they may be better off not knowing. The Turtle Boy by Kealan Patrick Burke is one of the most enjoyable reads I have had in quite a while. I thought it might be kind of tough since I am not the intended audience, but I found that the richness of characters and the power of the authorâ¿¿s writing drew me in more than I ever thought it would. My highest compliments to the author for the work he has done here. If you have a young child, or remember when you were one yourself, The Turtle Boy is a book you donâ¿¿t want to miss.

Not a page turner.

Mildly interesting. Glad it wasn't any longer than it was or wouldn't have finished it. Leaves you hanging at end.
