This was definitely the best book to help you and your infant sleep better. A good friend recommended the book, and I am so thankful for him finding this book. I didnt follow the schedule exactly as is, but took lots of great info and created my own schedule. I do agree that some parts are unhealthy, but you can be creative and use tons of helpful info to fit your schedule. My baby went from waking up every 3 hours to eat, from just waking up once at 5:00 a.m., goes back to sleep and then wakes up every morning at 9:00 a.m., I am sooo Happy...

Risking causing SIDS - letter to the author

Dear Suzy, When I saw your ad for the book/video to help train babies to sleep 12 hours per night at 12 weeks, I became concerned. All the research on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) indicates that the most vulnerable time for this to occur is in the 2-6 months period and even to 12 months, which includes the 12 weeks covered in your publications. One of the causes of SIDS is thought to be when infants go into a deep sleep and their immature nervous systems do not stimulate arousal for proper respiration. Therefore, it would seem risky to train babies to go into a deep sleep and sleep long periods because it is not only abnormal but also dangerous. It would seem more appropriate and safer to help adults to get along on less sleep or frequently interrupted sleep, or help them learn how to get more sleep in several shorter segments. Twelve Magic Hours

This book is an important read for any new parent. A baby who has learned to sleep for 12 hours is not in a deep sleep the whole time. Every human being moves up and down through several stages of sleep - some shallow and some deeper - throughout the night. I teach parents in Canada and the US how to teach their infants to sleep 11-12 hours once they've reached 12 lbs. It's a miracle and has many benefits like enhanced attachment, better feeding, positive mood.I applaud the author for doing a good job with a highly volitile subject. Kitty Raymond

    good quick read

The information in the book is good. It didn't work with our daughter but I can't blame it all on the book's method. The book is an easy, quick read. I wish I had it when my daughter was born.
