    I Also Recommend:

    Superb writing, depressing book

This is a beautifully written book, but it is so very sad. All of the short stories included are quite depressing.

    Recycled stories

I love the author's first book of short stories. However, her last few books have gone downhill. This book was just the same theme but recycled a few different times. Her stories are becoming very predictable. She is a good writer but needs to expand her writing. However about writing about other Indians and not just focusing on Bengalis. Overall okay...

    Disappointing

I loved Ms. Lahiri's first two books, but was bitterly disappointed by Unaccustomed Earth. The stories seem stale because Ms. Lahiri has just recycled themes and character prototypes from her other works. I would be a sad day for literature if this very talented author cannot expand her range beyond these repetitive topics and what now have become cliche characters.

    Somewhat disappointing...

After the near perfection of The Namesake, I was really looking forward to this collection. They seem to be a step backwards. Don't get me wrong, the stories are perfectly crafted. I have no complaint about the artistry. It's just that the stories weren't particularly interesting and I found it impossible to care about the characters. When I finished the book, I felt disappointed and wished I hadn't bothered. If you haven't read The Namesake, read that instead.
