Heyer is a classic
I am a Georgette Heyer fan from way back and wish she had written more
mysteries. The book has a good plot, a likable detective and lots of
interesting characters - much like real life. The only thing I didn't give a high rating to was the book cover which doesn't really match the
story line very well. The read is the important thing though and it is great!1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

Great writer I had never heard of
I try to read writers from the past - if anything to see how nothing changes. I just ran across this author at a local B&N store and picked this up. Loved the story, loved the writing - mystery, smart conversation and a little romance thrown in. Some current authors I can always guess "who did it" - I thought I knew with this one - - but was wrong. Loved it. I promptly bought the other two mysteries of hers that were currently available.

Fun "cozy" mystery
Very enjoyable "murder in the country manor house" mystery. The characters were interesting, the dialogue fun, and i did not guess the murderer, yet it made sense. I would recommend for fans of the genre.

An Intellectual New Find!!!!!
This book was a treat!!!! Short, witty and with an ending I DID NOT see coming!!!! Georgette Heyer is a new authorial find for me, and as a Christie and Doyle fan, I find her writing at their level!!! Cannot wait to read more!!!

Old fashioned mystery
English country manor murder mystery written in 1934, along the lines of Agatha Christie. A “gentleman” inspector from Scotland Yard is called in to investigate a murder where most of the house guests had their motives. Engaging characters, twisting plot, and a romance. A good, cozy read. I always find it interesting to read books written during earlier time periods: so many different attitudes, and yet so much that remains the same.
