    Better than all the rest!!!

I am completely in love with this book. I have so many pregnancy books even the classic What to Expect and find this one is so much more informative. It has a great set up, is well written and answers all of my questions before I ask them. I have been so much more prepared for my appointments and all the many changes ahead because of this book. A must read for every pregnant women, even if this isn't your first!!!!

    A preconception godsend...

This is the only book I have found that covers everything you need to know about preconception from health (including, but not dwelling on, infertility), money, social and emotional issues. Everything from preparing to conceive to postpartum is in one volume unlike many other preconception books I have found. I like seeing the whole process from start to end.

This is My FAVORITE Pregnancy Book!

This is the VERY BEST pregnancy book I've ever come across. I have 8-10 pregnancy books already and I'd give them all up for this book. It has so much MORE information than any other book, which is great for those of us who like to obsess about getting pregnant and our pregnancies. I highly recommend this book!

Great alternative to What to Expect...

if you want a book that gives you clear and complete information about almost everything you need/want to know about pre-conception, preg, delivery and beyond, buy this book. what to expect when you're having a baby tells you what happens but this book tells you why. AND not only does it provide much more detail and breadth of info, it provides more info. when you read what to expect, you will find you probably know half the stuff in there already. but when you have the unofficial guide, you can refer to it throughout your preg--especially if you have any kind of complication. i had a miscarriage with my first preg, preg-induced hypertension with my 2nd, and a c-section (with other complications) with my 3rd preg (2nd child) and used this book for all three pregnancies. it deals with loss and grief, various complications, special circumstances, and other issues. it is actually very interesting and fun, too. GREAT gift for anyone you know who is preg, especially if they are like me and like to have as much info about their situation as possible. (i would have gone to med school for ob/gyn if i had the time and money!) by the way, the what to expect book for preg is overly simplistic and superficial but the series for children (what to expect the first year and what to expect the toddler years) are great.

    Thorough, accurate, readable

As a medical professional, I tend to get irritated with books that contain misinformation and an obvious agenda. Not only was the information in this book accurate, it also did a good job of presenting a LOT of information in a clear, unbiased manner. I have recommended this book to many friends who have also commented on how helpful and informative they've found the book. I especially liked the chapter in the beginning on all of the genetic tests that are available. The pros and cons are listed, making it much easier for every reader to come to their own conclusion regarding testing. I also was impressed regarding how they presented info on choosing a pregnancy care provider--and included information on midwives--again leaving the reader to weigh the pros and cons and come to a decision best for her particular situation. The authors were thorough, accurate and unbiased--a combination that I haven't found in other pregnancy books.

    Very informative, lots of resources

This is one of the most informative books on conception, pregnancy, and childbirth. Contains numerous on-line links and sound financial advice.

Straight Forward 'Just the kind of information I needed' kind of book

Sometimes you want clinically sound advice in a not so clinical format. You want to know both what you can expect and what inevitably will feel 'totally unexpected.' I think that this book did a wonderful job explaining in plain English the ups and downs of the miracle of conception, child birth, and what happens after the new addition to the family gets here. It is the kind of information you wished your doctor would take the time to share with you. It is the breadth of perspective that your mother probably couldn't give to you. I loved how the chapters were divided and have used the book as a reference guide. If you want the facts with an acknowledgement of the emotional realities that accompany this life changing experience, then this is the book for you!
