As insulting as Bailey, or worse?
I noticed this book in my university's bookstore and, intrigued by the title, I looked through it. My shocked reaction quickly turned to fury as I found such notable FTMs as Loren Cameron referred to with female pronouns. This author appears to believe that all FTMs are lesbians, including those who are exclusively attracted to men. The word 'transition' is always bound by quotation marks, implying that no FTMs really transition to a male gender expression, but remain forever female and should be referred to as such, despite their wishes. As a gay FTM, I must point out that this book does not speak for my feelings, and no amount of academic theory gives credibility to a work which has the audacity to declare that it understands my identity better than I do myself. Was this review helpful?
