What an incredible book this is! I’ve never heard of most of these women and my conception of history was vastly altered by reading its pages. Whether it was Alison la Jourdain, Esther Quira, the revolutionary entertainment proposed by Izumono Okuni, Raziya, Maria Cunitz, Phillipa of Hainault or Marguerite de la Roque, these women stepped up and took charge at a time when women were supposed to be meek and biddable. Quite a few of them juggled power and politically-motivated, money hungry husbands, nobles, kings and popes, as well. I look forward to reading more of the series of these wild women! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

Uppity Women Unite!
As one reviewer has already stated, Vicki Leon has penned a series that is 'better than traditional history.' The Uppity Women book series should be a part of all scholastic reading lists because of its unique perspective and entertaining form. What a wealth of information is found in these books! Leon presents a wonderful history of daring women in a fresh and unique way. Seemingly a reporter who has discovered time travel, Vicki shares facts about hundreds of women from ages passed. Leon keeps her chapters brief and packed with tidbits about some of the most interesting females in history, presenting their stories with sly humor and complete accuracy. Readers aged 12 and up will delight in these volumes. Wonderful as gift books, buy the entire series for the Uppity Women in your life! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Better Than Traditional History Text!
These simple tales of uppity women taught me more than all of the history courses I took in high school and college. The stories are simple and many are humorous. I appreciated that Vicki Leon wrote about women from all social and economic backgrounds; it is a diverse and interesting book!! I hope she writes more about uppity women. Was this review helpful?
