    Good Book

It's best to go into this book without reading a summary of it and with having no clue what it is about. Therefore, I will talk about nothing regarding the storyline or characters. I suggest you avoid reading reviews that reveal too much information-- the awesome part of this book is walking into it not knowing what to expect. It makes the ride that much better.

This book is certainly a page turner. The first book I've read in a long time that forces you to read chapter after chapter. The author did an amazing job ending each chapter with something exciting that makes you desperately eager to get to the next chapter. As another writer, I am beyond impressed with his ability to keep readers so hooked!

The downfall: Part of the ending was a little overdone. I think the author could have accomplished tons more if he'd ended it using about a third of the words he did (i'm sure after you read it you'll know what I'm talking about). There is a point to the book and I think for a couple of chapters, the author tried WAY to hard to get the point across. The final 3 or so chapters are great.. but the 2 or so chapters before them I kinda skipped through because they weren't interesting.

Here at B&N this book hasn't been reviewed much; but on Amazon it has been reviewed about 80 times I think. About 90% of the reviews are positive. But I warn you: DON'T read the reviews on Amazon... some of them reveal WAY too much information and will ruin the story for you.

    strong thriller

Three people experience the most frightening event in their lives when they are doing ordinary things until a strange storm with odd lights appears without warning. They become unconscious when they awaken they find no one in sight. --- Former model Helen Krause had just been turned down for an assignment and her son informed her he is moving to New York. Mechanic Mitch Kent planned to propose to his girlfriend. Attorney Conner Hunter has his daughter Rachel for the weekend. This trio separately realizes they are alone until they meet and compare their experiences. Each hears shadows whispering and soon believes they are under surveillance of sorts. Soon they conclude that the observers want to separate them and keep them from meeting others, but do not know why, who they are, and what happened to everyone else. --- Readers will understand why this is the winner of the 2006 Operation First Novel contest, Each of the key characters has issues that they kept pushing off hoping to ignore which proves prophetic as the VANISH supersedes their seemingly minor previous problems. The threesome are in many ways similar yet distinctive and fully developed as they wonder how they landed in the Twilight Zone the truth will shock the audience as Tom Pawlik provides a strong thriller. --- Harriet Klausner

    I Also Recommend:

    WORTH IT!!

Do not read anyone else's review. The best thing you can do is dive into this book knowing very little. Oh, and read it at night. Especially the first 100 pages. It adds to the suspense. What a great read!!!

Vanish by Tom Pawlik captures the imagination in an unexpected way.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel by Tom Pawlik. It captured my imagination in an unexpected way. I'm a big reader and I usually get a good idea of what a story is about in the first couple of chapters. I sure was wrong on this one. It wasn't until almost the end of the story before I had an idea of what was going on.

Picture waking up after an unusual lightning storm and discover that you're all alone in a big city. Conner Hayden, a lawyer, is one person who woke up wondering, "Where is everybody? And where's my daughter, Rachel? Am I all alone in this big city?"

I want to stop here because I don't want to include any plot spoilers. Suffice to say that Tom Pawlik does an excellent job in his first novel. I can see why he won the Operation First Novel contest in 2006. Readers will surely scratch their head as I did wondering what's going on in this city and why people are disappearing. Many readers might think if the Rapture happened. Maybe or maybe not. I highly recommend this novel by Pawlik for anyone's personal library.

Vanish terrified me! UNBELIEVABLY AMAZING! I definitely see why

Vanish terrified me! UNBELIEVABLY AMAZING! I definitely see why your novel won a Christy. I can't recall a story that chilled me from almost beginning to end. There were scenes that had me holding my breath, wanting to cover my mouth, or have to stop reading, take a breath and go tell my wife what I just read. I can say that if you startle easily, this may not be your cup of tea, but don't take my word for it. It was terrifying without being bloody and gory. Tom was able to tap into the true essence of fear and create a story that will make you want to keep your bedroom light on at night! There's a twist you will never see coming!! EXCELLENT CHRISTIAN FICTION!
