Lara succeeds at creating a world that sucks you in and takes you on a wild and erotic ride. I am loving Lara Adrian's books and I can truly say that I am now a fan of hers also. Veil of Midnight is my favorite of the current five. The relationship between Nikolai and Renata is hot. The way the two of them get down and dirty with one another in more ways then one keeps you turning the pages and craving more. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment, Ashes of Midnight. Much kudos to Lara Adrian who is truly an artist in her own right!Show Less

And the worst part is, Barnes & Noble won't give you a refund for the ebook even when the book is unreadable. Luckily I haven't had my Nook for more than 14 days and can return it for a refund. It's a waste to pay that much money for an ebook reader and then have to pay for books you can't even read.Show Less

Readers will relish the lifting of the VEIL OF MIDNIGHT while looking forward to more vampiric escapades in the Adrian universe.

Nikolai the vampire is in Montreal searching for the Gen One vamp Sergei Yakut to warn him to be on the alert because someone is targeting the founding generation of the Ancient extraterrestrials and their families who mate and produce offspring with them. He walks into a trap sprung by some vampires and Breedmate Renata who can put him under with the power of her mind. Nikolai mentions his warning and is escorted to Sergei¿s compound for a discussion.

While there, Renata who trusts no one begins to think Nikolai is a good individual. Nikolai discovers that Sergei has hunts with humans as the prey; upset he walks out in disgust. He returns once he calms down, but Renata knocks him out as she believes he killed Sergei; unaware that his treacherous son committed fratricide. When the traitor sells the child Mira, who Renata loves like a daughter, she escapes the compound and rescues Nikolai. Their feelings blossom until they become blood bonded. However the Order that protects the vampire nation has assigned Nikolai with a mission that conflicts with Renata¿s plans to rescue Mira.

Once again Lara Adrian writes a gripping character driven romantic urban fantasy that leaves readers believing vampires exist while hiding in plain sight. Characters from the previous books in the "Midnight¿ series (see KISS OF MIDNIGHT, MIDNIGHT RISING, and MIDNIGHT AWAKENING) appear while a new surprising vampire joins the Order which is now dedicated destroying the Ancient and Dragos. Nikolai is stunned by his feelings for Renata, but less shocked than she is as she always believed she would be an untouchable loner. His mission leaves his soul divided between loyalty to his beloved and to the Order. Readers will relish the lifting of the VEIL OF MIDNIGHT while looking forward to more vampiric escapades in the Adrian universe.

Great book and series, but serious typos in ebook version

I have no idea if the hard/soft cover version as as many typos as the ebook one I'm reading does. Seriously should have checked it better before releasing it on ebook. Examples are several "the" words replaced with "die". "could" is in there as "gould" several times over. It's bad enough to be distracting.

    Vampirotica

Lara Adrian is sensational. Her books are hands down the best in this genre. I have read all of JR Ward's books, as well as all of Lara Adrian's and I think I love Lara's more. Her warriors have that 'extra something' that makes us love them to pieces. The stories and plots are sensational. They are exciting, terrifying, and most of all erotic. I have NO doubt this next book will have it all. It's Lara after all! -Neave

    I Also Recommend:

    Great series!!!

I'm currently reading the JR Ward DBD series and the next book doesn't come out until March 2012 (Lover Reborn). SO I wanted to "sink my teeth" into something new until the next DBD was released, though I didn't think I would find something I'd enjoy as much as I have BDB. I came across the Midnight Breed Series in my search and in reading the reviews and seeing so many DBD fans enjoying this series, I figured I'd give it a try. BOY was I glad I did!!!! I just finished Midnight Rising (book 4) and I can't wait to start Veil of Midnight, the series is awesome. I can't put the books down, they grab me right from the beginning. I recommend this book to all you hopeless romantic vampire fans, the books has love, war, passion, mystery, and more. The Midnight Breed Series is right up there next to my BDB warriors. Truly a great series, a must read in my opinion. Hope you pick it up, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

    Wow! Breed Unveiled

Nikolai goes to Montreal to warn Sergei Yakut of the current threat to Gen One Breed males and walks into a nightmare. Soon his own life is at risk and he must rely on the help of Yakut's beautiful guard, Renata, to help him out of a bad situation. Contrary to his nature, he finds himself drawn to Renata in a way he's never experienced. At the same time, he must help Renata rescue the young oracle named Mira from her captors.

This story has just about everything to capture your imagination and attention. Nikolai has always been one of the more intriguing Warriors of the Order and pairing him with Renata, a formidable Breedmate, is brilliant. Her psychic abilities are extraordinary and a perfect compliment to this Breed male. The villains are absolutely despicable and brutal. There are twists and turns throughout the entire story and I didn't want to blink in fear of missing something. Just about every word matters.

This may just be my most favorite in the series to date. Renata has hard and soft sides that makes her very interesting. She leveled Nikolai at their first meeting but then she is the maternal, nurturing figure for little Mira. Sergei may be a Gen One Breed male but he's difficult to respect. And, we are introduced to the Hunter, one of Dragos' Gen One creations. I've always been drawn to Nikolai and finally got the opportunity to really experience him in action.

Set aside time to read as much of this book as you can in few sittings because you will not want to set it aside. And, the ending will have you wanting to reach for the next installment.

Veil of Midnight still has the bite that all the other 4 do

Even though it's a shorter book, it's still very interesting especially because the woman character is totally different than any of the others in the first four books. She's unexpected & she has a little surprise with her. Lara's writing about vampires is just as different as Stephenie Meyer. One person once said that Stephenie's vampires are bologna because they sparkle in the sun. Well Lara's vampires are pretty different from the norm too. (OK they don't sparkle - sun does kill them & they do need to drink blodd from humans.) But Lara's & Stephenie's vampires aren't ugly monsters without a sense of right & wrong. I love these two women - they took a old horror character and added a true fanasty spin on them. Isn't that what fiction is supposed to be about? - Living a life and meeting intersting beings who shouldn't exist. I love the men of Midnight Breed & their mates.

Great plot to this story. Adrian does a wonderful job putting all the puzzle pieces together. From multiple levels of corruption to fake identities. The level of corruption in the society has been delicately weaved over many decades and she clearly demonstrates how the Order is unraveling this corruption to bring and end to the madness.

Very well written story. The love aspects are repetitive with this book - but its not unlike any other series of this kind.

    Nikolai and Renanta

I absolutely loved this book!!! I loved watching them take care of each other and watching them fall in love and finally realizing it. This book made me laugh and cry and I love that about books! I am also glad Lara Adrian brings a little bit of each book into the next book so we dont forget them. This series is so captivating! I already have the next book ready to go!

Another amazing book in this series!

I love this book and couldn't put it down! I really liked Renata mainly because she wasn't your typical helpless female. And Nikolai has become my favorite one of the breed! I loved this story, right when I thought I couldn't get hooked into the series anymore than I was this book proves me wrong :) Love it!

    Gotta read Midnight Breed!

Veil of Midnight, Book 5 of the Midnight Breed series by Lara Adrian, is my favorite in the series so far. On a mission for The Order, Breed Warrior Niko gets distracted from his mission's objective by Renata, a tough female bodyguard on a mission of her own. Things get intense as they join forces against the bad guys. Niko and Renata are Hott, Hott, Hott!! We are introduced to a couple of new characters who's stories have the potential to be the focus of a future Midnight Breed Book. I highly recommend this series and can't wait to start reading Book #6!

Slow Start, but WOW! what a finish!

I LOVED Nikolai in this book, but Renata just turned me off in the beginning, I guess cause she was using her powers against him. But I warmed up to her later in the book.

I just can't get enough of Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed Series. I don't know *what* I'm going to do when I get to the last page of the last book!

    cant get enough

I didnt think after reading J.R Ward's black dagger brotherhood i would ever find another vampire warrior romance series......Boy was i wrong. I began reading the midnight breed series after trying other series that didnt even hold my attention. Just finished the 5th book and i am a total midnight breed junkie. You cannot miss this series as it is just absolutley AMAZING. I was hooked from book 1 and cannot stop reading. Thanks Laura for the gift of storytelling you have and for letting us into your world. Perfectly done and not overly done in any way. Peggy Greenwell

Renata ruined this book for me. *Potential Spoilers below if you have not read the book*

I love the other books in this series. I was looking foward to Nick's story and i have to say that I am disappointed. Renata was a great fighter but sadly she seemed dim witted. I was more angry at her stupid choices to care much about her past or great fighting abilities. For one she sides with the bad guys at first then relaizes she needs Nick's help. I mean really it would be obvious to anyone who's side Nick was on. He did verbally attack those that owned the club. Then she knocks him out when he could have been discovered by the enemies surronding him and feels regret. Three times I caught myself wishing someone would slap her and I am far from a violent person. The story and plot seemed lacking and the realtionship between Renata and Nick seemed incredibly forced or thrown together wih out much thought. The only intresting charachters were Mira, Hunter and Andres. If it were not for the tree of them I would not have finished this book. Nick deserved a better mate and story.
