I was reluctant at first to allow myself to enjoy Lara Adrian's books because I am a die hard JR Ward fan. I was afraid that they would just be a bad imitation of books and characters that I came to know and love. However, after reading the first of Lara's books I appreciated the similarities and loved the differences even more. Lara succeeds at creating a world that sucks you in and takes you on a wild and erotic ride. I am loving Lara Adrian's books and I can truly say that I am now a fan of hers also. Veil of Midnight is my favorite of the current five. The relationship between Nikolai and Renata is hot. The way the two of them get down and dirty with one another in more ways then one keeps you turning the pages and craving more. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment, Ashes of Midnight. Much kudos to Lara Adrian who is truly an artist in her own right!

And the worst part is, Barnes & Noble won't give you a refund for the ebook even when the book is unreadable. Luckily I haven't had my Nook for more than 14 days and can return it for a refund. It's a waste to pay that much money for an ebook reader and then have to pay for books you can't even read.

    Best Series

If you haven't been reading Lara Adrian's 'Midnight Breed' series, then you really don't know what you're missing! One of my friends lend me the firsr 3 books from the series, and i am Hooked! Adrian's vampires are called "Breeds", their origins, history, and powers are a bit different from the rest of the vampires stories floating around the market today. These guys are hot,and they're fighting to save their kind as well as humans. "Veil of Midnight" is Adrian's 5th book.
It's hard to describe this intricately woven tale without giving away too much. This series is one of the best in this genre that's available today. If sexy vampires, intrigue, action, and hot loving get your blood moving, then pick up one of Adrian's books and be prepared to get hooked and amazed!

Great plot to this story. Adrian does a wonderful job putting all the puzzle pieces together. From multiple levels of corruption to fake identities. The level of corruption in the society has been delicately weaved over many decades and she clearly demonstrates how the Order is unraveling this corruption to bring and end to the madness.

Very well written story. The love aspects are repetitive with this book - but its not unlike any other series of this kind.

pretty good story but too many typos in nook version

This was a good book, although I enjoyed the first four books of the series a bit more. The problem was that there were so many typos that parts of it were difficult to read. It was very frustrating.

rushed but overall a strong story

This was a great book for moving the overall story arc along but not a particularly great romance. While Niko was mentioned previously in other books, his story and personality are not at all known. Renata is a complete unknown. I'm not particularly interested in the factual background of what happened in their remote pasts but rather what makes them tick and I felt that that part of the story was poorly developed. I also found the romance to be rushed and unbelievable. They move from her kicking his ass, to her desperately needing his help to their being madly in love in the space of a week??? And that with maybe 3 or 4 interactions before she goes chasing off to beg his assistance? This would have been more plausible if they had spent more time together or had a history together previously.

That being said, I thought the new characters Hunter and Mira were shaped up for future appearances and liked the buildup for Reichstein before his book. The bad guys were enumerated and there were some nice fight or flight scenes for drama and suspense. Overall a solid book. Lets hope the sixth book in the series is more fleshy.
