a tremendous romantic fantasy
Annwyn is the Otherworld and mortals are unaware of its existence. The realm is home to all types of supernaturals with the link between that of the humans and that of the paranormal being Velvet Haven, a night club owned by half-breed Rhys MacDonald, whose father abdicated as king of the Sidhe to marry a mortal. Rhys' shapeshifting cousin Bran, angrily sits on the throne, while suffering from the Legacy Curse that requires him exclusively to mate with the species he loathes humans.
When the ninth murder of a Sidhe occurs and the first female victim, Bran knows he must delay his search for his missing brother, Carden, who vanished into the Wasteland centuries ago. Instead he must focus on stopping the serial killer at a time when his visions show him dead, a victim of a warrior. Since evil initiated on the other side, Bran goes to Velvet Haven seeking a woman to replenish his energy and clues to the deadly predator; unaware that a connected killer is also on the mortal plane. At his cousin's club he meets mortal nurse Mairi MacAuley whose essence arouses him as never before. She rejects him as she assumes he is a player, but he persists unaware that their attraction could be the cause of his death
With much more going on than described above especially with her friend Rowan and the fallen Suriel for instance, Book One of the Annwyn Chronicles is a tremendous romantic fantasy with religious overtones that will stun readers. The story line is fast-paced from the moment Mairi and Rowen enter the velvet Haven and never stops for even a heart beat. The cast is strong especially the support cast who make the Otherworld seem genuine. Sophia Renwick provides fans with a twisting tale of salvation from even death.

Highly Addicting
So glad my friend got me hooked on this series. It's a different twist on the fae/human conflict,with some devine intervention...but this series is definately for adults only. I read this book nearly non stop and couldn't put it down. I have read book #2, Mists of Velvet as well and cannot wait for the rest of the series to be released.

A Great Paranormal
Bran, is the shape-shifter king of the Sidhe. Bran has no use for mortals but unfortunately a curse placed on him makes them necessary to his magic and survival. Now he has to find out who is killing paranormals. All he has is evidence that the one doing it is using black magic and is killing them very brutally. Bran knows he has to go into the mortal world to find out more but he isn't happy about it though he will do anything to protect his people.

Mairi is a mortal that is more than she seems. Mairi hasn't had an easy life but her mother and her received help when they needed it. Mairi had help getting into college. Mairi became a nurse as a way to give back to others. Another way she gives back is to help trouble teens. Now one of those teens has been killed.
Going to Velvet Haven, the night club Mairi meets Bran she feels an attraction that she has never felt before. Mairi is the first mortal that Bran has ever been really attracted to and he is not sure what to make of this attraction. Soon they find out they have more in common than their attraction for each other. Some one is committing murders that are the same in both the mortal world and in Bran's world. Bran soon realizes that they are dealing with two people that are working together so they will have all the magic they need to rule over both worlds.
Bran has to try to stop the murderers and deal with his feelings for Mairi. This becomes especially difficult since Mairi is the one mortal that give him more magical energy than he has ever been able to get from anyone before. There is another complication on top of the others Bran has an enemy from long ago who is trying to use Mairi to destroy him and the only way to stop his enemy is to stay away from Mairi, but Bran is finding out that is a lot easier said than done. With enemies all around them they are going to have to determine who they can trust so they will both come out of this alive.
This story has an interesting take on the Sidhe. The world building is very good and believable and comes to life for the reader. It has many twists and turns and you are not sure where the story will be going to next. The story takes the reader on a fantastic ride that you hate to see end. This is a fast pace story that will keep you reading until you get to the very last word. -

Sizziling, sexy and dramatic
I like stories of otherworlds, fallen angels, and other crazy stuff like that. When I read the back of this book off the cuff at the store, I thought it sounded good. Didn't really pay attention to it being "book 1" of a series. I was very surprised by the intense sex/lust (not in a bad way). The story kept my attention because behind all that sex and lust, there was a really good story about the Fey, fallen angels, God's involvement, God messanger Gabriel, the Goddess of Annwyn, those banished to the Wastelands and others of the immportal worlds. There are fables that need to be interpreted, warriors that need to be selected to defeat the evil forces that threatens both Annwyn and our world. It was phrophesized that the "3" would be the ones that can stop all the madness. The "3" are prepresented in many ways - the Oralce that fortells the future, the marked one of God (the stigmata) and the Nephilum (which doesn't come in until later books my guess); the "3" with Mairi and Bran and the Raven; the Circle of 9 (selection of the warriors that must defeat the evil force.

If you like Twlight and the Mortal Instruments or books like that, consider this the "grown up version" where when they started, they don't stop.
I'm really looking forward to the next book and can't wait to find out when its available. There is also a prequal to the book that introduces Annwyn and the characters of this book and their ancestors and how all these lives and times entwine with each other - Christmas Highlander. It is a good read. 3 short stories in 1 book - the middle story explains what happens to Bran and his Uncle and how they are cursed. -
