Well done!
A great read that doesn't require deep assessment or thought, but gets right to the core of emotions. It invoked laugh-out-loud moments as well as tears. The characters are very well developed and loveable. True to MN roots.

Absolutely Wonderful!
I bought this book and had it in my nightstand for a few months. Every time I looked at it I wondered "Now why did I buy this?" The story focuses on a middle-aged man and the friendships and events that affect his life. One day I picked it up and started reading it - I couldn't stop! The wonderful writing style and story swept me away. I grew up in Minnesota, and I will admit I truly understood the book's setting. I now live on a lake in Wisconsin and the atmosphere of our area is so like that of the Minnesota northwoods.

"Waiting for White Horses" is one of the best books I have ever read ...we're talking a lot of books over many years' time. I ordered Nathan Jorgenson's next book, "The Mulligan," before I finished this one. I bought it for my 60 year old Minnesota brother for his birthday, had my husband read my copy, and bought my friend a copy for her birthday. We've all been discussing the scenes in the book and all agree it's a winner! Not a book you want to end, but a book you would like to read forever. I cannot say enough about it! Thank you, Mr. Jorgenson, for sharing this beautiful story with us! -

First let me say, I enjoyed the book. However, there were things that could have made the story a great story, instead of a somewhat contrived, propped up story. I would say that it's worth reading.
First let me say, I enjoyed the book. The characters I liked, and thought that they were created fairly well. I did think the book contained too much romance and sex. I believed it was placed in the story as filler, and to my way of thinking, it didn't add anything to the story. The main plot of the story is great; however, it just gets sidetracked a few times. If you read this book with the thought of just having a fun read, than you'll be pleased.

A most satisfying read
I did not expect to like this book as much as I did--heck, I even enjoyed reading the lengthy duck hunting passages! For a debut novel, it was truly outstanding. A few minor flaws--e.g., overuse of some words and phrases ('sarcastic,' 'silly grin')but any book that can grip me like this one did and not let go is magical. Particularly touching were the scenes with his aging and ill father. Also it was fun to read a book set in an area of the country I am very familiar with.

I have lived on a lake in Minnesota for the summers for over 40 years!
This was an awesome novel with a great storyline and amazing descriptions of fishing and hunting on the lakes there. It is a great read for a male or female and it had so many wonderful nuggets of truth to remember and share. I could easily read this again.

I currently live here and the author made me want to move here.
My wife asked me to read this book after her book club chose it and before the clubs meeting. I hesitated to start it because of the title 'I wasn't sure what 'white horses' were' and I do not duck hunt. However, I really enjoyed the novel. As many men 'and women' in the Northwoods, I do have specific trips with individuals or groups of guys. Snowmobiling, opening of fishing, pheasant hunting, fishing in Canada or Alaska, and houseboat trips everywhere. I did have many laugh out loud moments and was almost undressed by the honesty of the conversations. We really have several one or two sentence converations or rebutals which turn or give input as written in the novel. Ladies, this is how we communicate on those trips and yes it is very pleasing, memorable, provocative and insightful to name a few qualities. I may have had many more than one night of a hangover but the true desire and grace of these encounters is to enjoy nature, each other and to mutually push and shove on lots of topics. You can only have this with people you truly mutually respect and trust and yes, love.

CJ Richardson, avid reader and upcoming author
Waiting for White Horses is one of those books that you will cherish always. It leaves you with a feeling of family, friendship and the longing for a quiet lake and a great hunting companion in which to share a memory with. This book held my attention from beginning to end and is one that I will continue to take down from the shelf for many years to come.

EXQUISITE
We were given this book by my brother for Christmas,as he knows the author personally.I would say that it is so Minnesotan & has the feeling of being in the duckblind with him. I waterfowl hunt with my husband of 35 yrs. & can totally relate to the authors life. It is a must read for the hunter & nonhunter!

Needs a 6th Star
I thought I had read a great novel until I picked up Waiting for White Horses. Being a hunter from South Dakota I can relate on the friendship and comradare that hunting buddies share like no 'nonhunter' ever could, and this story draws it out perfectly! Not to worry if you arn't a hunter though, Jorgenson tells a great story and it will not be lost on you! I can't wait to reccomend it to my friends. Enjoy

I love this book!
I absolutly love this book and can't get enough of it! I am a female hunter and enjoyed it just as much as the others reviewing the book on here (mostly males I presume). It is hilarious to the point of laughing out loud and very sad at times also! He is an excellent writer and you feel like you are part of the story. You will not beable to put the book down once you start. I tell everyone about this book... my favorite novel by far! Thanks Nate!

AWESOME
This book was in creditable. I too am from Minnesota and married to a duck hunter, so this means a lot. The author has wonderful talent, I found myself not wanting to finish the book because then the story would be over. When I did finish the book, I found myself telling everyone how wonderful the story was and they should read it.

One of the best books I've ever read
How many books can make you laugh out loud, and then have you reaching for a tissue? This is one of those books. It will really make you feel something. I was sorry when I finished the book, because I missed the characters. The setting and the plot where also memorable. I would love to see it made into a movie,it has everything to make a great movie. Who should the cast be????

A REAL Blue Bill hunter
By the third page I was sitting in my own duck blind. It was almost as if the author had been evesdropping in our duck camp for years. Having recently lost my husband to cancer,my most favorite hunting buddy, I could hardly keep a dry eye reading this wonderfully insightful, warm, funny tale of friendship, camaraderie and family. I have just purchased a copy for my hunting camp and if my labrador could read, she would get her own copy!

Move Over Garrison Keeler!
I have to confess to growing up in Minnesota and cherish those memories. I also confess to having many fond and memorable hunting trips with my Dad to Otter Tail River and Zippel Bay on Lake of the Woods in Northern Minnesota. Waiting for White Horses brought back those special memories of opening day hunts shooting Mallards and Teal with my father. It brought back memories of shooting Bluebills, Redheads and an occasional Canvasback in the middle of a strong Northerly storm blowing snow and sleet and ducks with it. Thank you for so accurately describing the hunts I have been priviledged to participate in. I laughed, cried and thoroughly enjoyed Waiting for White Horses. I highly recommend the book for the humor, insight and the wonderful wisdom it conveys.

Loved this book!
I found this book at the coffee shop in the author's hometown when I was there on vacation. I wasn't sure about buying it but the last day there decided to. I thought the book was superb. The characters were well thought out and so realistic. You want to meet them and get a little better acquainted. Having the Northern Minnesota setting doesn't hurt either. This book has something for everyone. Romance and adventure in one!

A refreshing read!
This is an outstanding first novel. The author has provided everything here--romance, humor, nature, and a riviting tale. The characters are well-developed and the story line is focused. It is a book that will 'stay with' the reader long after the ending is read.

A Pleasant Surprise
In the interest of full disclosure (as they say), I know the author personally. However, I must also say I do NOT read fiction. I typically read books on business, marketing and politics. Since Nate is a local author, I figured I could give it a week or two of my time in between other activities. After 'two consecutive nights of forcing myself to bed at 3 then a morning late for work' later, I finished my first novel since I was a kid. I wasn't expecting that at all. I am not a professional reviewer, which is a good thing, but I do believe the fact that the story kept me wanting more is a good indicator of the quality of the storyline. I am not a hunter or fisherman, but I liked how the main characters 'hard-core' hobbies enhanced the story. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting both 'laughing out loud' and a tug at the heartstrings. I think this is his first book...and I hope he writes more.
