    My highly recommendations to all!

By reading the classics you can not only enjoy a nice style and interesting storyline but also find answers to many life questions. I advise everyone to read this book.

The classic love story set against Napoleon's invasion of Russia

Written in 1869 the story of Natasha and Pierre set against the back drop of Napoleonic Wars that covers life in Russia from 1805 through 1820. The work is very long and will take time to get into the story and get the large cast of characters that revolve around the two central figures straight in your mind, but it is worth every page. The edition I read was 3,891 pages. Tolstoy paints a vivid canvas of life in Russia among the different classes of people as Napoleon moves in and out of their lives. Along with using historically accurate Russian personages as he reflects on "Mother Russia" fifty years prior to the books writing.

Good edition of a great book

The Nook version of W&P is a couple of the best dollars you will ever spend. It takes time and patience, but there is a reason that this book is considered one of the best ever written.

Nook's e-edition includes translation for the French phrases, which othere e-editions may not.

While the book is surprisingly easy to read, I bought the Sparks Notes as well...they proved to be helpful in the beginning with a list of the various Russian names of each the main characters and a brief synopsis of each section.

    Wow Incomparable.

Reading this book is like observing the universe on a clear night. There are so many layers and threads woven into the tapestry of the book. It transcends mere historical drama. Only a great fugue by Bach is of comparable stature. The many themes of life rise to the surface only to be transformed and to reappear with renewed vigor. There is no beginning. We enter a salon, tales are told personnages are introduced, themes open out. There is no end either, for out of the warm embrace of Natasha-Pierre and of Nicholas-Mary young Prince Nicholas emerges as an expression of the historical threads moving into the future.

Aylmer Maude wrote notes and an introduction to WnP. Their inclusion would be of immense help.
