A terrific showcase for the art of Alex Ross

This treasury-sized book is visually amazing, and takes a perspective on Batman that has never been taken before. The story and captions are minimalist; it should be noted that this book is designed to showcase the Alex Ross art more than anything else. And spectacular art it is, almost photographic in its style. The story is excellent, but not as poigant or moving as in 'Superman: Peace on Earth' (WOC's prequel). All in all, a wonderful and unique book that deserves its large-sized format.

    Fantastic Art....OK story

First i would like to say that Alex ross is a genious ,His realistic depiction of classic Comic Book Charecters always brings a tear to my eye.His use of Perspective is wonderfull. The Story Idea is also preatty good but to me where it falls short is in the dialog. The Dialog is a bit too introspective for my taste, and there isnt hardley enough dialog between charectrs. Its basicly a narerative with a few sparse bits of conversation between charceters. Another gripe i have with it is that its just too SHORT. I finished it in 20 min, but boy were those 20 min great.Every page a new scene to gaze at. Even the scenes of just Bruce Wayne were great. He actually looked like a wealthy handsome billionare.I think the little touches to detail is what made the art even more wonderfull.Everything from the wardrobe of Bruce Wayne to the Scars on his back that show a man that has been to hell and back in his pursuit to fight crime. Did anyone noticed catwaoman at the pigiuens club? its the little things. Now dont get me wrong the story line is top notch, very touching but if another artist was doing the art this book would only get 3 stars. Paul Dini is great at what he does and so is alex ross...if they can fix a few minor things in the book such as the inclusion of more supporting charecters (night wng , robin, alfred, various villains), more gadgetts/Gotham landmarks, and most importantly more dialog between charecters, i think that theyll knock one out of the park. By The way, The Batmans outfit is the best version i have ever seen, alot like the animated series outfit.
