Better than I thought - it stayed on my mind some time after I finished!

The Watsons is a hard book to continue; Jane Austen had a reason for dropping it. I think the author would have done better to continue what was written rather than making a complete new start, especially with the original as part of the book, because she changes some of JA's facts given in the original piece. A couple characters are too much of caricatures, but Emma holds up nicely. A couple places the author's sense of time seems rather befuddled. The continued story is really quite good.

    HIGHLY RECOMEMNDED

ONE OF THE BETTER TRIES AT FINISHING THE UNFINISHED. I LIKED THE PRINTING OF THE UNFINISHED TEXT OF THE WATSONS RIGHT NEXT TO THE AIKEN VERSION.
A GOOD READ FOR AN AUSTEN FAN.

I read and reread the completed Jane Austen regularly and believe I read a completed version of The Watsons several years ago that I liked--this wasn't it though. There are just too many ways the author breaks the "Jane" rules for me to enjoy this completion. In Jane's books, shocking events generally only happen "off camera," but in this book there was shock after shock. Also, some things, like single women receiving letters from men they hardly knew, would not have happened in regency England. I just found the whole thing disappointing.

This Jane Austen fan really enjoyed this book.

This book was very entertaining and I couldn't figure out till close to the end just how everything would turn out.
