Good piece of light reading!

I loved this book! It had me in tears! My family was going away for the weekend and I brought this along and ended up reading it on the way to the cabin! I recommended it to my mother (who loved it) and now my aunt is going to read it! It was

what a waste of my time!

I started off reading it and thought, "Well, this is mediocre." By the end of the novel I was so disgusted with the corny lines, stupid plot, and boring characters that I couldn't believe this was bestselling book. Do not waste your time, like I did!

    moving read

I read this book last summer and it is still fresh in my mind. I recommended it to a number of my friends and they all agreed that is was a moving and memorable book. This was one of the first books I gave out as gifts. I best appreciated how the writer included 'us' the 'reader' by leaving an actual letter enclosed on the back cover of the book. Great marketing and nice move on his part. Bravo!
I would also highly recommend a one night read called Christmas Jars..

This is a great rainy day book. Just curl up and read. It is a quick, easy and enjoyable read. Yes, it is predictable, but it does make you go aww in places.

Good but on the hokey side

I tend to be a realist not a romantic, so this book was just ok for me. A little unbelievable but I really liked the character development. A few surprises along the way made for pleasant reading. Great for book clubs!

    A true gift

The Wednesday Letters is a book I would expect to become a classic. I often wonder what all of my "stuff" will say to my children when I am gone. The fictional family is given the opportunity to know their parents as the real people they were through letters left behind. I will be giving many copies as gifts.

    Disappointing

I'm a huge fan of books written in the style of letters to/from various characters. This book disappointed. The characters were under-developed. The story-line was choppy and wrapped up too quickly. The ending was satisfactory, and the idea of the epilogue in an envelope sealed at the back of the book was novel... but the letter wasn't to/from the parties I had hoped, and was thus disappointing as well. Otherwise, it was a quick and simple read, nothing earth shattering.

See my recommendations below for books that did a far better job of story-telling via correspondence between characters.

    Could have read smoother

The book could have been written better. It's an okay book, but I would recommend lots of other books before I ever recommended this one.

    The Value of Companionship shines!

In "The Wednesday Letters" Jason Wright is at his usual best in expressing a real insight into family emotions; fears, anxiety, loneliness and joy. In his lyrical ways the pages just shine with these heartfelt qualities. I thought the story started out slow, but once the letters were found, it was refreshing to read how the grown-up sister and brothers; Samantha, Matthew, and Malcolm with all their different backgrounds, their pride, likes and dislikes, they still found the value of companionship, and love for each other. Overall, I thought this was an emotional, but uplifting story written by an excellent author.

    missed it's mark.

WEDNESDAY LETTERS is all about two lovers, Jack and Laurel, who die together, and on the same night. As their three children start to mourn the loss of their parents, they find the secret letters. Every Wednesday, or at least every week, Jack wrote write his one and only a love letter. Malcolm, Matthew and Samantha, their children find these letters after they had passed on. Through reading them, they find out the secrets Jack and Laurel kept... which were good, and bad................. THE WEDNESDAY LETTERS was a big letdown for me. I was expected a wonderful love story, but instead it's was just a mediocore romance. There wasn't enough depth put in the characters, for the first couple of chapters I couldn't figure out who was who. I wish the letters where more about undying love, then just Jack's trips a long the way. The Notebook is such a better romance to enjoy.

A Quick Read That Leads To Worthwhile Thinking

The Wednesday Letters left me with this thought: "Am I as committed to my relationships -- and to my values -- as I think I am?" While 4 of the 6 main characters were not as well developed as I'd have liked, the two who were strongly portrayed were the two who really mattered since it was their story and evolution that is to stick with you after you've completed the book. I felt inspired to write letters to the people who matter most to me, namely my spouse and my children. The husband who wrote to his wife every week throughout their whole marriage (even when they were separated) made me want to applaud his consistency and faithfulness -- rare and precious traits!

    Wonderful, Absolutely Wonderful

This revwiew is bound to be long so as always I will give my opinion up front: READ IT READ IT READ IT!
THE WEDENSDAY LETTERS is a book that I have often seen in magazines and book stores and have always wanted to read but have been afraid of it's content ( which you will soon learn is one of my biggest fears.) After spending roughly a year and a half being roughly disgusted with the books my fellow classmates are reading, I ventured carefully into the Christian Fiction Section. I thought that this section only contained books about cowboys and girls on praires which is not my taste at all, but I wonderfully thrilled to find this book in that section.
THE WENESDAY LETTERS was a wonderfully new twist on a love story unknown. The plot continued to surprise me which of course made for a wonderful story. Lucky for me, I bought this book on a Friday. That was good because I didn't put that little paperback down until I finished it a day after I bought it.
The characters were very good and again the creative names and faceted plot made for delicous food for the imagination. Overall a wonderful book and I will definitly read it again.

    Good Concept, Banal Execution

The concept of "The Wednesday Letters" is an intriguing and romantic idea that could have come to much better fulfillment.
    There are some very emotional and touching scenes in the book, and the narrative reads fairly quickly and easily, but I found a few things to be lacking in the book;
Character development - we only get snippets of character information and their relationships to eachother, which doesn't give us a good depth of character. Either we need to know everyone equally, or the author should focus in on one character specifically, instead of trying to oscillate between the two options. Some characters have good chemistry; some that are meant to have good chemistry just don't come off well together.
Plot development - while the overall plot was okay, the scene-to-scene playout was a bit choppy and jumped around quite a bit.
Realism - Some characters act in irrational ways, and others act in ways that just really aren't believable. I will say, without trying to give away to much, that I feel that there are no contextual clues to support the "big reveal" towards the end of the book, and it makes the reader feel as if the author has pulled one over on them!
Overall, it is a pleasant enough read, though I am disappointed that the narrative didn't live up to my expectations of the premise of the book.

    Best Book I ever Read

I bought this book because the title caught my eye. It is by far the very best book I have ever read. It makes you think, question and examine your life choices. What seems like a very simple story takes twists and turns that grab at your heart in a way that is unimaginable. I have given this book as a gift to many of my friends and everyone has the same experience. I will now read anything and everything written by Jason Wright. His style is straight forward, with many hidden meanings. Pay careful attention, or you could miss some potent stuff. I find that I have gone back to this book and reread it a number of times. I always seem to find something I missed the time before. I hope that this book touches everyone as much as it has touched me. I will never be the same again, it has had that much of an effect on my life. I never thought a book could do that!

    The Wednesday Letters

I read this book a few weeks ago and could barely put this book down. I found myself always asking whats going to happen next. I finished the book in a couple of days but enjoyed every minute. It was a very touching book and most of the time couldn't believe what just happened. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good book. Jason Wright is a very talented author with other books as Christmas Jars and Christmas Jars Reunion. He always keeps you guessing and you'll never know whats gonna happen next. I rated this book a 5 star and think many other people will as well. It was a very good buy..
