Africa: Amazing and Overwhelming
I too was assigned this novel as a part of my AP English class, and while I must agree with those of you who rated Markham's book among the most elite and well-written of all time, I can also sympathize with those who were a bit overwhelmed by the content and the maturity of the language. While the language of this book was not completetly lost on me, I do feel that at times it was a little extraneous and yes, sometimes boring. But I also think that the way in which highschool students read books also contributes to us getting lost in the whirlwind of words. You see, I was assigned this project over my winter break, and needless to say, I ended up with only a few days left to read the book. While under such time constraints, the flowing and ample language began to get annoying and began to seem pointless. But for anyone who has time to relax and enjoy this book as it was meant to be savored, I think you will enjoy it.Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
