    GREAT BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally! I visited Sea World many years ago and spoke extensively to several of the trainers. I immediately applied the techniques at home and was amazed. I am glad the trainers at Sea World collaborated with Ken Blanchard on this book and I wish them much luck. All parents should read this one!

    Whale Done

In these erratic times getting organizations to move in any direction can be a challenge. So when Wes Kingsley visited Sea World and saw how the trainers could move the large whales around, he was in awe.
In Whale Done: The Power of Positive Relationships by Ken Blanchard, he shares some insight into how working with these animals in a positive method has a whole lot of different result than the tradition methods.
This book gives you tools that will enable leaders to look at the job ¿whale¿ done versus simply ¿gotcha¿.
So don¿t swim with the sharks, float with the whales and understand the importance of positive relationships.

Blanchard Again Cuts to the Chase

For many years Ken Blanchard has had a unique ability to make associations that clearly illustrate the principles he wants to teach. Identifying the best ways to manage people by highlighting the training techniques of whales is another of his truly insightful concepts. First class teaching by a master.

The Brady Bunch tries Positive Reinforcement

Corny, but as an animal trainer and coordinator of a youth volunteer program I plan to purchase one for all my youth volunteer members. Reads like a book for teenagers. Could be marketed to an adolescent audience.

    A Good Read!

Ken Blanchard of One-Minute Manager fame draws on the positive training techniques that SeaWorld whale trainers use to get their whales to want to perform. Although using whale training as a teaching model is a unique twist on the literature about training and motivating employees, the material itself is not nearly as exotic. Much of it draws upon traditional principles for getting along with others, such as building trust, emphasizing the positive and redirecting undesired actions into more productive channels. If you¿ve read Blanchard¿s previous book about being aware when people do something right so you can praise them, some of this content will seem familiar, though he says this is his ¿most important¿ book. The story line tracks mythical businessman Wes Kingley¿s discussions with whale trainers who reveal what they do to train their creatures, gradually, carefully and with real warmth. These conversations blow some very basic points up to whale-size, but Blanchard writes with charm. We recommend this splashy manual, the first course in Whale Psyc 101.

beaver cleaver goes to sea world

There are many sound success principles in this book. Build trust, accentuate the positive, redirect the energy when mistakes occur. Praise progress, catch people doing things right. There is meat to be found in this book, if you can dig it out of its somewhat sappy coating. Through the fictional story of Wes Kingsley, Whale Done! identifies proven principles that motivate killer whales at Sea World, and illustrates how they may be applied to benefit your relationships at work and home. Prepare to learn some sound information that will help you and your team become more effective, but brace yourself for corny dialogue that reads like a bad episode of 'Leave It To Beaver'. This whale just skims the surface.

Another quick read from Ken Blanchard. As with his others short on length, short on substance, and high on price. This is a good entry level book for understanding human behavior and how to influence behavior. But if you really want to understand the in's-and out's of Performance Management, I highly recommend the related titles I have listed below. In fact, Blanchard acknowledges Dr. Daniels in his credits at the end of Whale!

    Blanchard at his best

Whale Done is exactly the reading we need to build back our corporate teams. This can be applied at so many different levels: Kids, marriage, work. The best part of it is these guys from Sea World actually use it.

Whale Done: The Power of Positive Relationships

What a wonderful concept. As a parent I know it's too easy to pay more attention to what my children do wrong than to take the time to praise what they are doing right. Every parent should read this book....Then go tell your children how wonderful they are!

Accentuate the Positive, Redirect the Negative

?Relationships make all the difference in the quest for success and happiness. Unfortunately, many mistakenly attempt to control vital relationships with negative manipulations, including subtle and not so subtle threats and manipulations. Real relational power, however, resides in positives such as encouragement, constructive criticism and positive reinforcement. This book, like others such as Why Didn't I Think of That? - Think the Unthinkable, help you approach relationships from new perspectives which you find hard, if not impossible to see today.
