    Great homeschooling resource

This series has been a great resource for me as a homeschooling parent. I use them to evaluate my child's progress, as well as reading the suggested stories, and using the art section, especially, in his education. Mostly, they have built my confidence in being able to educate my child, based on the knowledge they give of what he is required to know. I appreciate that Hirsch goes a step above and beyond what minimum requirements are in public schools.

The critics really missed the point, didn't they?

I laughed when I read the two professional critiques displayed with this book. Personally, I am grateful to Mr. Hirsch for outlining an enriching and comprehensive curriculum for my homeschooled child. But that is the point--it is an outline. It is up to the parent/educator to supplement with the original versions of the recommendations made. And my five year old can read these books with no problem. And he loves them.

A must for parents wanting a good education

As a parent greatly concerned with my childrens education, I would definately recommend this book. This book can be used as a basis for a homeschool curriculum or as a way of making sure your child learns what he/she needs to. A great book for parents trying to raise a well-educated child. Simple, to the point answers to what your child needs to know & when. Also is a great resource for books, videos, games, etc. for your child to reinforce or learn what they need to know.

    Proofreader anyone?

Many, many errors in this book. (I have the nook version.) I am pretty sure Hirsch meant to say "Fact of the DAY" not "Fact of the Hay" Too many more to mention.

What your First Grader needs to know

Very easy to use and very informative. Great aid for parents educating their children at home. Could use a little more information in Fine Arts.

    A must have

If you are a homeschooler or just helping your children fill in their education, I highly recommend this book. I have spent a large amount of money trying to find good books to aid in my children's education and, without a doubt, this has been my best purchase. I have found this series to be comprehensive without overloading them with difficult concepts, and written so as to capture their interest and imagination. My kids beg to study from it!
