Hart's latest tightly plotted mystery with fully realized and believable characters is a winner, a fun and quick read. Nela Farley is lost after the death of her husband and loss of her job as an investigative reporter. As a favor to her quirky, free spirited sister, she agrees to fill in for Chole at her job while she goes on an unexpected vacation to Tahiti. She'd have to take care of a dead woman's cat and stay at her apartment. Funds are tight, and free rent would be good, but the when Nela meets Jugs, the cat, her newly found 6th sense with cats kicks in and she feels sadness from Jugs as well as impressions of a woman tripping over a skateboard on the stairs to the apartment and falling to her death. That night, an intruder enters the apartment and tears the living room apart. Nela locks herself in the bedroom and calls 911. That begins a series of events that lead to another murder and the possibility of a new life for Nela. Hart keeps the story moving as Nela unravels personalities and motives while we get to Nela! 5 starts!

I had hoped this would be a good book, but I found it to be quit

I had hoped this would be a good book, but I found it to be quite dull. I had anticipated that that the cat "conversations" would be more like the Rita Mae Brown characters, but no such luck. This book almost made the tiny list of books that I could not finish. It was really slow!

    I liked it

I thought this book was really good!! Not my favorite but i think the author style and the book itself are nice and easy to read. I had no problems with the characters other than there was alot of them. The only thing that i wish was different is more envolvement of "what the cat saw". But over all i found it enjoyable!

"You can never fool a cat. A cat always knows exactly what

"You can never fool a cat. A cat always knows exactly what someone thinks and feels." Nela Farley recalls these words when she meets Jugs, the cat she has agreed to care for while her sister is in Tahiti. From the very first encounter, it is obvious that Jugs, with his gleaming green eyes and intelligent demeanor, is a very special feline. He is wise and intuitive and Nela quickly realizes that she can read his thoughts. "Whever she looks at Jugs, she moves into his mind." Jugs communicates thoughts, phrases, warnings and above all, emotions. "Anger...anger...danger." As the mystery unravels, Nela meets Steve Flynn, a very appealing journalist, who finds himself drawn to her. The attrraction is mutual. Steve's analytical take on the murders (and his strong ties with the local police) make him a valuable partner in solving the crimes. I hope to see more of Steve in subsequent releases; a tender romance seems to be developing between Steve and Nela. I love any mystery involving a cat, and this is a particularly delightful one! I am so looking forward to the next release and seeing Jugs once again.
