Are you contemplating a mission trip or helping out somehow those that you see as less-fortunate? Read this book first! The authors take the time to examine poverty, what helps and what hurts and guides one to focus on it all before "blundering in" and causing hurt to others and/or oneself. This is not a fast-read book - take your time with it and muse over it and absorb it for everyone's benefit. If you are going with a team I would suggest that the whole team read it and you all discuss it over time, well in advance of your trip.

Didn't Suck

The premise and principles are strong. Some of their conclusions are less so.

Must read for anyone who wants to make real difference

Excellent and real world analysis of why so much effort from so many doesn`t seem to have made things better. If you want to make areal and lasting difference you need to know what not to do. Like a doctor you must first "do no wrong". This book is faith based but with real practicle plan to put compassion to work in a way that lasts.

A Must Read for Missions Work

Anyone involved in any aspect of missions (including financial support) should consider this book required reading. It is logical, thought provoking and encourages deeply responsible use of resources.

Very discriptive, easy to read, has some situational examples, good comments

You must read this book if you are planning to do mission work to help the poor here or abroad. Understanding the flight of the poor and assisting them in their spiritual, social, political and physical needs and well being will have an impact in saving souls for eternity. JESUS Christ is always the center of that mission because He can profoundly changed lives. God blesses those who believe in Him!

    Highly Recommended for All

An excellent book to read whether you are a missionary, support a missionary, or in need of understanding how important it is to either be a missionary and/or support one. God calls all His children to serve others & if the world was filled with more servers & less takers, we would live in a much better world than we do. God help us to realize our calling.

if you're missions minded you gotta read this

This is probably one of the best books to come out within the last couple of years! The insight and guidance that Steve Corbett is priceless. He's on the same lines as David Livermore and anyone involved with missions, going on Short Term Missions Trips or looking at how to actually be fore effective should read this!
