    Finally, Someone Who Understands

Of all the words that ring true in this wonderful book, the truest are the ones spoken by many of the parents the author interviewed whose kids can't get a life: 'Who knew it would take this long? And when will it end?' As the mother of a 25 year old college graduate who's still living at home and unwilling to take a job he thinks is 'beneath' him (i.e., $30,000 a year and no benefits), I feel the same way. This book is packed with wisdom and excellent advice I wish I'd had a long time ago, but am going to put into practice immediately!

    Letting Go of Our Guilt!

My wife and I spend endless conversations trying to figure out where we failed our son. Not that he's a criminal or a drug addict or anything serious like that! But he is 30 years old and still hasn't 'found himself!' No career, no wife, no stable job even. He keeps telling us to 'chill,' and that he'll make his own decisions. Jane Adams's book gave us great relief--and some much needed advice on how to chill. We did our best, we wish him well, and Dr. Adams reminds us that often this is about all we can do. Her book is a real comfort to parents who are still trying to figure out what they did wrong!

    Gratitude for Jane Adams!

Jane Adams' book has courageously zeroed in on a well- hidden heartbreak that many older parents are experiencing, difficult young adult children. I haven't found any information about this problem anywhere until Jane Adams got to the heart of the matter in a helpful, insightful book that finally makes it clear that parents of difficult grown children aren't alone! Thank you,Jane Adams, for your wonderful and profound book.

    Responesiblity goes both ways

As a disappointing adult child, I wanted to find a book to help my mother with our relationship. But this book just promotes total denial on the part of parents. I.e. the part about the one son who is a drug dealer and alludes to the daughter being a high end prostitute, but the mother sees no relation to how she raised her children and what they became.

My problems with my mother are not that kind of bad. If the author can't help a parent how they made a few mistakes in the past, how that effects the present, then there is no advice on how to not repeat the same mistakes with a damaged adult child in the present. Unless, of couse, just deny and enable more bad choices.

How or if the adult child needs to be fixed, is not the point of this book. And good thing it doesn't cover that.
