Snuggle up on a rainy day!

A beautiful, lyrical story about animals both big and small and how they cope with a rainstorm. Have you ever wondered how a fragile butterfly survives the pounding rain? Tiny ants? Wonder no more. Kids will be fascinated by this glimpse into the natural world and animal behavior. Visit the author's website for more rainy day fun.

    Highly Recommended

When Rain Falls is one of five magical books (Under the Snow, A Place for Birds, A Place for Frogs, A Place for Butterflies) by Melissa Stewart. The rhythm of Ms. Stewart's writing is comforting to children. I recommend her books to parents of youngsters for their beauty of language as well as the knowledge they impart. Readers and not-yet-readers are enveloped in the world of nature in the richness and simplicity of both the writing and illustrations.

A Beautiful Book for Bedtime or a Rainy Day

WHEN RAIN FALLS is a soothing, lyrical journey filled with interesting facts about where animals take shelter when rain falls. The text takes us through four different habitats: a forest, a field, a wetland, and a desert. The journey ends when the rain stops, allowing readers to spot the animals in their daily activities. This is a wonderful bedtime or rainy-day book that will leave children wondering and imagining the next time rain falls.

    Great book!

Wow, I'd never thought about what animals do in the rain before, and neither had my students. I loved sharing this book with them. Then I went to the author's website and found out there's a Readers Theater script to go with the book. It's a perfect way to help my second graders understand animal lifestyles and behaviors, and to help them develop empathy for the creatures all around us.
