Excellent overview of Cleopatra's life and the ancient city

Nicely written and fast paced. Never boring and finished the book in one night. The Cleoptra in this book is somewhat more controlling and manipulative than in the more recent Kleopatra by Essex. Reading both gave me a great overview of the time, places and the women.

    'Memoirs of Cleopatra' in mini-form

In no way does this novel compare to Margaret George's excellent 'Memoirs of Cleopatra'. This book was pedestrian, without substance or detail, and did not keep my interest beyond section nine; at that point the author took an episode from 'Memoirs' and put it into his own words. Not to say that the experience did not really occur in Cleopatra's life but the coincidence was just too pat. Thank goodness it was borrowed from the library so that my money was not wasted.

    Great Book

I thought this book was great! It went into the depths of Cleopatras sole and expelled her true desires and passions.

    Impetuous Travel

I strongly recommend this book to any one who wants to have a perspective on the world during 50-30 BC. Through it, the reader will make a travel from which he/she will not want to come back. The history is so beautiful, yet strong, because the author shows the contradictions present in all human beings: love/hate, ambition/fears, etc.
