    Bigger and better!

I have to admit that I know this author but haven't spoken to her for years due to a relocation. I read the original of this book (published in 1994, I think). The original was a fun and enlightening book and this new updated and expanded version is even better. Besides the serious stuff like women's amazing contributions to science, there are fun, sometimes fluffy 'bonus' pages, such as that females get the hiccups only one-quarter as often as males. The book is set up so that if you aren't interested in a particular subject, such as women athletes, you can just skip on to the next reason it's great to be a girl. The Introduction is interesting, too. Shannon writes about how the world and how her daughter have changed since the original version (when her daughter was a preschooler) to this day (her daughter is now in college). I think this makes a great baby shower present. I have two friends expecting girls this summer, and this book will be among my gifts.
