Neggers' best YET!
In THE WIDOW, Carla Neggers weaves a story that kept me jumping from page one to the end. This is her best book yet!

Great combo of mystery & romance!
I thought this was an excellent mix of mystery & romance. I liked that there was just the right amount of romance mixed throughout, not just a few lines hinting at romance, and not page after page of sex scenes. I will definitely be reading the next in the series!

Loved the book!
This was the first book I'd read by Carla Neggers, and I have to say, I'm glad I chose this book. The Widow was thrilling, it was sexy at times, and kept me interested from page one to the end! I found myself mad at the tight-lipped locals and rooting for Abigail. Loved it!

In Mount Desert, Maine, FBI Special Agent Chris Browning and his wife Boston homicide detective Abigail are on their honeymoon when someone murders him. Seven years later, the homicide is unsolved and classified as a cold case by local authorities.------------- Thirtyish Abigail has not been able to find closure as long as her spouse¿s killer walks free. She decides she has waited too long so she resolves to return to the killing scene to investigate. She begins questioning locals starting with Owen Garrison, who had informed her that Chris was dead. Most of the locals offer nothing while the summer people offer less. However though emotionally dying with every step, Abigail refuses to back off even when someone tries to kill her.---------------- THE WIDOW is a fabulous private investigative tale (Abigail may be a cop but she is on her own) in which the heroine seeks closure, but finds a myriad of plausible suspects instead. The Maine background adds to the feeling of New England stoic silence that seems to hammer at Abigail¿s inquiries. Though a romantic subplot with Owen seems more a throw in to fans of that genre, Carla Neggers provides a strong thriller.---------- Harriet Klausner

2 stars
Four days after marrying Chris Browning, Abigail became a widow when he was fatally shot. For seven years, that one fact has been the most prepossessing thing in her life, driving her to become a homicide detective and try to find out who killed him. On what would have been her seventh anneversary, a mysterious call makes her quest more urgent. As it happens, she and the search and rescue worker who found Chris too late, Owen Garrison, are on the island in Maine where Abby's life was changed at the same time, and so, they work together to find the truth. Now, as they come closer to learning why Chris died, and in so doing, who pulled the trigger, they uncover secrets, place themselves in danger, and risk falling in love. ............... ** If you're in the market for a convoluted, rambling plot, then you've just scored. The Widow is a labyrinth of possible suspects and motives, making for a surprising, abrupt ending. **
