A great story, excellent history
Rose O'Neale Greenhow was known to only a few Civil War buffs for her role in helping the Confederacy win the First Battle of Bull Run before this fine biography explored the amazing life Ann Blackman of this patriotic woman who gave her life for her cause. In tracing Greenhow's upbringing, Ann Blackman also offers a remarkable portrait of the Washington where Greenhow grew up, a young capital where slaves were traded a short walk from the White House. A fascinating read!
