Wonderful "Go-To" reference
This book is full of basic and classic recipes, which are sure to be a hit. It has many beautiful photos and is a pleasure to peruse. It is very simple to follow with a great variety of dishes. A kitchen essential!!

Good basics, but not much use for anyone who already knows how to cook
This is a good basic starter cookbook for someone who wants some simple, classic recipes and doesn't know much about cooking. The recipes are solid and relatively simple, and mostly cover classic standards - roast chicken, turkey, and beef, roasted potatoes, basic sautees and stir-fries, classic apple pie or chocolate chip cookies, etc.

Personally though, it's not of much use to me. As someone with a decent grasp of basic cooking, I like cookbooks for inspiration and new ideas, and there isn't much of that here. I received it as a gift and will be returning it for this reason - I read through it, the recipes are nice, the book is well laid out and has nice color pictures, but there's just not much here that's useful for me as a somewhat more experienced cook.
Bottom line: check it out if you're a new cook or looking for a lesson in the basics, but I'd look elsewhere if you're a more experienced cook looking for inspiration or new ideas.
