    I Also Recommend:

Buddhism for Westerners in Simple Clear English

If you are looking for peace in your life, but know there are some pieces to the puzzle missing, this is the book for you. No matter what your religion is, this book will clearly enhance your day to day experience with life and your religion. By explaining how our minds (mostly our
egos) operate, we can be more aware of the pitfalls it leads us to, keeping us in a cycle of want, unhappiness, or temporary happiness. I hold this book gently, I respect it, as it such a wise teacher.

    A Revelation

Knowing absolutely nothing about Buddhism I decided to read this book. Before reading it, I held many misconceptions about Buddhism; for example, I thought that Buddhists were worshiping false idols, and did not believe in the one true God. I was wrong. Jack Kornfield, the author, makes this book easily understood and accessible to everyone. I learned so much that I decided to purchase two more books by the author, and several others books co-authored by the same person. For anyone looking for insight, spirituality, general knowledge, and specific techniques to live more mindfully, I highly recommend this book.

    This book is amazing!

Where to start with this? Well first off, I grew up in a Buddhist like household. I myself am not Buddhist (or at least not completely... whatever that means) but am familiar with some Buddhism. But I must say I learned quite a bit from this book. I love how it really dives into the psychology of Buddhism and gives you little "activities" on how to help yourself. Not only was this book a good interesting read, but it is applicable to daily life. I am even considering buying this book in paperback, just to have one handy for those of my friends that do not have a nook. I will definitely rate this book a 5 out of 5.

Can't say enough good things about it

Along with Rick Hanson's "The Buddha's Brain", Kornfield's "The Wise Heart" is a perfect summary of Buddhist theory and practice. No one could read this book and not be convinced of his mastery of the subject as well as how to proceed with putting Buddhist principles into practice.

As a beginner buddhist this book was simple and clear enough for me to understand. With past books that I have read about buddhism they always seemed to dull and listless with this one I could actually dive into and I began to actually feel enlightened.
